15 Fun and Functional TV Shows to Put on When You Get Ready Every Day
Getting ready can be a drag. It's like, I have to put on all that makeup again today? I just did that yesterday! If you're like me, it's nice to have a distraction to make a morning getting-ready routine a little less of a slog. Sure, you could always put on a podcast, but you know what's even better? Something you can listen to and watch out of the corner of your eye. As such, I've decided to help you shake up your morning routine by recommending a bunch of TV shows that are perfect background noise. Naturally, this is not a comprehensive list; it would be too hard to capture every brilliant show that Netflix has to offer. But hey, it's a start.
Bill Nye Saves the World
They say you learn something new every day, and who better to do it with than the science guy himself?
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
First of all, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is brilliant. Easily one of my favorite shows ever. Second of all, the creative minds behind the show (including star Rachel Bloom) have written over 100 songs over the course of the past three seasons. You'll enjoy yourself AND dance through your morning routine.
My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman
Nothing will invigorate your morning like incredible conversations with truly incredible people. It will certainly add a little pep to your step as you head into your day.
Queer Eye
Nothing will inspire you to work hard like watching five amazing men clean up someone's life. The only downside is, you may start crying at any point while you put yourself together. A little counter-intuitive, I know. But Queer Eye is just that good.
Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife
OK, it's technically not a TV show. BUT it's a TV special, and I find that stand-up comedy is great to have on in the background while doing any number of things. You don't need to look at the TV (because it's just the comedian pacing around), and you'll laugh through everything!
Chelsea
Chelsea Handler has been revitalizing the talk show genre for quite some time now, so she'd be a great addition to your morning. She might even inspire you to revitalize something in your own life!
Grey's Anatomy
The good news is that there are more than 300 episodes to keep you entertained. It will take you months upon months of morning sessions to get through everything. The downside is that the drama is so intense at times, you might stop what you're doing just to see how it all pans out.
The Standups
We've already clarified why stand-up comedy is a great companion for getting ready. Now consider Netflix's original series, which is jam-packed with sets from all kinds of hilarious comedians.
Schitt's Creek
You guys. Schitt's Creek is SO funny. There are already plenty of short, snackable episodes to burn through, the characters are amazing, and you don't need to pay too much attention to figure out what's going on.
A Little Help With Carol Burnett
Listen, Carol Burnett is a f*cking delight, and frankly, that should be all the reason you need to put this on while you do your thing.
Amy Schumer: The Leather Special
Friends
Come on, we had to include Friends. If you've always wanted to watch, this is the perfect way to marry an unavoidable daily activity with a necessary life experience.
Glee
Glee is really a heavy hitter when it comes to background noise and freshening yourself up. There are entertaining song covers in every episode that are sure to keep you dancing, plus tons of episodes to bank for many weeks ahead.
