Um, Can We Talk About These Insane Game of Thrones Theories For a Minute?

Game of Thrones fans, while we wait not-so-patiently to find out what will finally go down in Winterfell, we can't help but have our minds bogged down with insane theories that we just need answers to. Not to mention, the amount of theories going around is enough to make your head spin. Whether these prove to be true or not, we will just have to wait and see.

To keep you occupied until the last episode (don't worry, we are already crying, too), we rounded up some of the wildest thoughts and hypotheses we could find. May the best theory take the throne!

Theory: Can Dragonglass Kill the Night King?
HBO

Theory: Can Dragonglass Kill the Night King?

Dragonglass, a substance forged from volcanic lava, is one of the most powerful materials in the entire universe because it's strong enough to take down a White Walker. How wild is that? But what about taking down the Night King . . . the very first White Walker? Is that possible? Only time will tell.

Theory: Is Bronn Winterfell's Only Chance of Defeating the Night King?
HBO

Theory: Is Bronn Winterfell's Only Chance of Defeating the Night King?

If Bronn is able to warn Winterfell before they get in too deep in battle, it could save them from being surprised by the Night King and give them enough time to figure out what to do instead. Bran seems positive that the Night King is going to be coming after him, so we're hoping that if the battle goes down this way, he'll have a plan for Winterfell's next move. Does this mean that Bronn is really their only hope? We are sort of banking on that answer being yes.

Theory: Is the Night King Going to King's Landing?
HBO

Theory: Is the Night King Going to King's Landing?

The dead are coming, and Winterfell's army is preparing to tackle an army that definitely outnumbers them and fights with reckless abandon. But, they have two dragons and a Three-Eyed Raven, so that's good, right? Either way, Winterfell is planning on battling the evil King himself, but what if the Night King has other plans? He just might.

Theory: Who Is Buried in Winterfell's Crypts?
HBO

Theory: Who Is Buried in Winterfell's Crypts?

As the battle against the White Walkers looms on, everyone is quickly splitting into two groups: the warriors who plan to fight on the front lines, and the noncombatants who will stay inside until the battle is through. The latter group is headed to the only hiding place they can find: the crypts of Winterfell, buried beneath the Starks' castle. Throughout the catacombs, there are statues of generations of dead Starks, but not all of them are actually entombed there. So, who is really buried in Winterfell's crypts? We'll have to wait and see . . .

Theory: Who Knows About Jon Snow's Parents?
HBO

Theory: Who Knows About Jon Snow's Parents?

Only a handful of people know about Jon's identity, so at least one of them would have to survive for the truth about his lineage to live on. This gives us total hope for who might survive the battle. Will it be Bran Stark, Samwell, Tarly, Daenerys Targaryen, Gilly, Tyrion Lannister, Melisandre, or Jon Snow himself?

Theory: Is Bran Stark Dead?
HBO

Theory: Is Bran Stark Dead?

Most of the time, you know who's alive, who's dead, and who's a White Walker. Bran Stark is clearly still alive, but he's transformed into a being called the Three-Eyed Raven, who seems to have swallowed up the Stark boy as he was. So is Bran alive, dead, or something more complicated? That's what we will have to wait to find out.

Theory: Can Bran Take People Back in Time?
HBO

Theory: Can Bran Take People Back in Time?

Theory: Why Does the Night King Want to Kill Bran First?
HBO

Theory: Why Does the Night King Want to Kill Bran First?

While the list is long for the people that the Night King is after, we theorize that the leader's short-term goal will be to kill Bran, aka the Three-Eyed Raven, first. Bran explains that the Night King will expose himself, for one specific reason: "He'll come for me. He's tried before, many times, with many Three-Eyed Ravens. [He wants] an endless night. He wants to erase this world, and I am its memory." So, will he actually kill him first?

Theory: Is the Night King a Stark?
HBO

Theory: Is the Night King a Stark?

Obviously people have some ideas on the Night King's true identity, and the most popular theory is that he's actually Bran Stark, just with his mind trapped in the body of the First Man who is kidnapped by the Children of the Forest and turned into the Night King, of course. But even if the Night King isn't that particular Stark, that doesn't mean he isn't a Stark at all. Right?

Theory: Has Jon's Direwolf Been With Him This Whole Time?
HBO

Theory: Has Jon's Direwolf Been With Him This Whole Time?

Jon's beloved direwolf pet, Ghost, appeared on screen for the first time in years in the latest season. The white wolf was spotted in a scene where Jon and Sam are having a serious conversation about whether or not Jon has told Daenerys about last week's massive revelation (aka that Jon is actually a Targaryen — and Dany's biological nephew). So that begs us to ask, has Ghost been here the whole time?

Theory: Is Drogon Khal Drogo?
HBO

Theory: Is Drogon Khal Drogo?

We have finally witnessed Jon Snow riding a dragon while Dany rides Drogon, her dragon named for her late husband, Khal Drogo. This scene is immediately followed by a moment when Jon kisses Dany following their shared flight. And when he accidentally meets Drogon's gaze, and the dragon gives him an . . . interesting look. This leads us to one of the theories floating around that Drogon isn't just named after Khal Drogo — he's the reincarnation of the Dothraki warlord.

Theory: Will Daenerys Die?
HBO

Theory: Will Daenerys Die?

It's clear that this show loves its prophecies, from the one about Cersei's death to the one Varys heard as a child to the many predictions of Melisandre. There are two prophecies that may be more linked than we originally thought: the prophecy of Azor Ahai and the prophecy given to Daenerys after the death of Khal Drogo. If these come true, what is her fate?

Theory: Is the Night King a Targaryen?
HBO

Theory: Is the Night King a Targaryen?

One of the main questions we have is quite obviously what is the true identity of the Night King, and could he be a Targaryen? And, we have even more questions on top of those like, is the Night King part of the Three Heads of the Dragon Prophecy, and why is the Night King able to ride a dragon? If all of these questions are connected, the Night King could quite possibly be someone we didn't see coming.

Theory: Will Sam Tell Sansa About Jon's Parents on Game of Thrones?
HBO

Theory: Will Sam Tell Sansa About Jon's Parents on Game of Thrones?

We all saw Sam Tarly reunite with his old friend Jon Snow at Winterfell, just in time to reveal his major discovery: that Jon is not the illegitimate son of Ned Stark, but in fact the legitimate son and heir of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark — making him half-Targaryen, half-Stark, and the strongest claimant to the Iron Throne (as well as his new girlfriend's biological nephew). So who will be the next person to find out the truth? We think that Jon's sister (or, more accurately, cousin) Sansa will be the next to know.

Theory: Will Killing the Night King End the War or Not?
HBO

Theory: Will Killing the Night King End the War or Not?

So this theory is a little wild, but if the Night King is immortal by the same definition that someone like Death is (an entity that forever exists), then who's to say dragonglass or Valyrian steel will vanquish him? Basically, one cannot kill an immortal being, so maybe the best way to defeat the Night King is to have someone benevolent take his place.

Theory: How Could the Weirwood Tree Could Help Defeat the Night King?
HBO

Theory: How Could the Weirwood Tree Could Help Defeat the Night King?

Ever since Bran Stark returned to Winterfell as the Three-Eyed Raven, he's been spending a good amount of time in the godswood around a strange weirwood tree. As it turns out, those trees have some wild history. They are deeply magical, with some even bearing carvings of faces, which were supposedly created by the Children of the Forest, who allied with the First Men thousands of years ago when the White Walkers first attempted to invade the continent. The specific tree where Bran spends time is the exact tree that guarded its cave even from the Night King himself. Although it's never been said outright, it seems that something about the weirwood tree has power against the White Walkers, which could definitely come in handy soon.

Theory: Will Daenerys Get More Dragons?
HBO

Theory: Will Daenerys Get More Dragons?

There is a strong possibility that Dany could find at least one more dragon during this season. Her remaining dragons could perhaps reproduce, but it seems a little late in the game for that. If she wants fully grown dragons, her best bet might be the Azor Ahai prophecy. Will it happen?

Theory: Can Bran See the Future on Game of Thrones?
HBO

Theory: Can Bran See the Future on Game of Thrones?

OK, so it's been pretty well established that Bran Stark might possibly be the most powerful character in all of Game of Thrones. As we know, he's had visions before, but can Bran use his gifts to change the outcome of future events, or perhaps even influence things in a way that makes his ideal outcome happen? As of right now, it's hard to say so we'll just have to wait and see how much the young Stark boy does and doesn't know about what's to come.

Theory: Has the Fate of Westeros Been Obvious From the Very Beginning?
HBO

Theory: Has the Fate of Westeros Been Obvious From the Very Beginning?

Are we missing something or has the fate of Westeros been staring at us since the first season? The name Winterfell focuses on the Starks' ancestral home and emphasizes key moments from the show's very first episode (hello, it was titled "Winter Is Coming"). This might mean it's safe to theorize that Winterfell's history and the castle's name could play a huge role in the outcome of the season.

Theory: Is Daenerys Targaryen or Jon Snow Azor Ahai, or Do They Both Have a Role to Play?
HBO

Theory: Is Daenerys Targaryen or Jon Snow Azor Ahai, or Do They Both Have a Role to Play?

If there's one theory a Westerosi must know, it's who is Azor Ahai, aka the "Prince That Was Promised"? There are many thoughts as to who the reincarnation of this hero is. Some people think it is Beric Dondarrion, Jon Snow, the Hound, Ser Davos, Jamie Lannister, or Daenerys Targaryen. Others even believe that Azor Ahai is already dead, but can we believe that? There's some subtle evidence that Jon and/or Daenerys could potentially be this promised Prince or Princess.

Theory: Could the Karstarks Be the Key to Winning the War?
HBO

Theory: Could the Karstarks Be the Key to Winning the War?

So just how important are the Karstarks? With the Night King heading toward Winterfell, it's important for the Northern houses to stand united, and for good reason. Although Daenerys's army might seem big, she and Jon need as many allies as they can get. And, since the Karstarks are an influential Northern House, it's important that they have them on their side. If enough of the Karstarks can survive the coming battle, they could also be vital in winning the rest of the Northerners over for Daenerys when it comes time for the Dragon Queen to make her play for the Iron Throne. Let's see how that all goes . . .

Theory: Is Bran Every Brandon Stark on Game of Thrones?
HBO

Theory: Is Bran Every Brandon Stark on Game of Thrones?

If this theory that Bran is actually every Brandon Stark is true, then Bran might just be the most important character of them all.

Theory: Will Sansa Stark Become Queen on Game of Thrones?
HBO

Theory: Will Sansa Stark Become Queen on Game of Thrones?

The only thing that anyone can think about is who will finally claim the Iron Throne. Could it be true that Sansa Stark might be the one? Only time will tell.

Theory: Will Sansa Like Daenerys?
HBO

Theory: Will Sansa Like Daenerys?

A very telling teaser showed Sansa's hair, and while this may be overlooked by some, there could be more here than meets the eye. Her hair seems to greatly resemble Daenerys Targaryen's hair (from the season seven teaser), and it could mean that Sansa actually takes a liking to Dany and even ends up looking up to her and taking inspiration from her.

Theory: Is Jon Snow's Statue Old?
HBO

Theory: Is Jon Snow's Statue Old?

In the brief teaser, we see Sansa and Arya Stark and their sibling/cousin Jon Snow walking through the crypts, passing statues of their late relatives. When they reach a far wall, they stumble upon some statues modeled after their own faces, pointing to the fact that their deaths might not be far off. But Jon Snow's statue looks older than he is. This could be foretelling something very promising.

Theory: Does the Feather Mean Something Big?
HBO

Theory: Does the Feather Mean Something Big?

The season eight teaser had many big moments that were caught by fans, but did you catch this one? After Jon walks by a certain statue, a feather falls onto the ground, and at the end of the teaser, when it's covered with frost, it seems to hint that the Starks — especially Jon — are in grave danger.

Theory: What If This Is One of Bran's Mysterious Greensight Visions?
HBO

Theory: What If This Is One of Bran's Mysterious Greensight Visions?

While the teaser was wild in itself and had more than a couple of little pieces we could home in on, what about this broad, overarching theory: could this be one of Bran's visions? We are just saying that a lot of his visions involve visits to the past, so . . .

Theory: The Seven Deadly Sins
HBO

Theory: The Seven Deadly Sins

What if Game of Thrones is, in part, a Biblical allegory and the Night King is not the ultimate evil we think that he is? We know that each of the great houses of Westeros represents one of the seven deadly sins, so this theory really isn't that far off, right?

Theory: Will Tyrion Betray Dany?
HBO

Theory: Will Tyrion Betray Dany?

After more than a couple of questionable acts in season seven, fans are thinking that the Hand of the Queen may be harboring a secret that could lead to Daenerys's downfall. If this is true, we aren't even sure what it could mean for the rest of the characters.

Theory: Will Sam Kill the Night King?
HBO

Theory: Will Sam Kill the Night King?

If the theory that (the once-cowardly) Sam will end up killing the Night King is true, then he just might be the show's truest hero.

Theory: Will Sansa Marry Gendry?
HBO

Theory: Will Sansa Marry Gendry?

Thanks to men like Joffrey, Ramsay, and Littlefinger, any previous notions that Sansa had about romance are long dead . . . or so we thought. But could it be that the show has been trying to set up Gendry and Sansa this whole time? You know, she does deserve a happy ending.

Theory: Will Daenerys Kill Jon Snow?
HBO

Theory: Will Daenerys Kill Jon Snow?

The show so far has tried to make people believe that Jon is Azor Ahai reborn, but there are some signs that suggest Daenerys is the real savior that Westeros has been waiting for — and if she is, then she might just be destined to kill Jon Snow.

Theory: Will Cersei Become the Night Queen?
HBO

Theory: Will Cersei Become the Night Queen?

While mostly everyone else has made their way North, Cersei was far too stubborn and stayed in the South. Some speculate that her decision not to form an alliance with Jon Snow and Daenerys could lead to the Lannister Queen earning a new title in season eight, which would be the Night Queen.

Theory: Will Gendry Inherit the Throne?
HBO

Theory: Will Gendry Inherit the Throne?

Gendry has survived more incidents that should have resulted in his death far too many times for people not to speculate that he might play a bigger role than we had suspected. Fans have also noted that he might have a more complicated past than we know about. Gendry becoming king would be a wild twist, but it definitely wouldn't be a completely unreasonable one.

Theory: Will Arya Kill the Night King?
HBO

Theory: Will Arya Kill the Night King?

Arya has already played a big role in Game of Thrones, but what if she actually plays an even bigger role in season eight? We have seen her intense training, her natural bravery and agility, and the fact that she is given a Valyrian steel dagger. This could all point to the fact that she could potentially kill the Night King.

Theory: Is Jaime Going to Die?
HBO

Theory: Is Jaime Going to Die?

In an interview with Variety, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau didn't give away too much, but he did get some of us thinking. Is Jamie going to die? He mentioned how he'd more or less wrapped filming and said, "I'm not 100 percent done, but I've shot the last scene with me." So what does that mean?!

Theory: Is Bran the Night King?
HBO

Theory: Is Bran the Night King?

We've seen that Bran's character isn't the biggest on the show, but he has been set up as the catalyst for nearly every major event that has happened since season one. (If you missed that, we encourage you to go back and rewatch it all.) So if the theory that Bran is the Night King is true, then he just might be the biggest and baddest villain of them all.

Theory: Is Ned Stark Still Alive?
HBO

Theory: Is Ned Stark Still Alive?

We know he was beheaded, but does that mean he's dead? Usually that would mean yes, but in the case of Game of Thrones, we never really know. If Ned Stark is still alive, do we even care who really got beheaded?

Theory: Is Rhaegar Targaryen Azor Ahai?
HBO

Theory: Is Rhaegar Targaryen Azor Ahai?

So this theory is a little more complicated than you might think, but if we assume that we still haven't met Azor Ahai, then it very well could be Rhaegar Targaryen, right? Yeah, you're going to want to look into this one.

Theory: Will the Night King Go to King's Landing?
HBO

Theory: Will the Night King Go to King's Landing?

While we are only left to speculate, it's not wild to think that the Night King will go to King's Landing in season eight. While Jaime will convince perhaps the entire Lannister Army to join him in going North, the joint armies will go North and fight the Army of the Dead. However, the Night King and his dragon might not be there. Why? Because they flew South to destroy King's Landing. Again, all we can do is speculate, but this seems pretty plausible.

Theory: Will Tormund Escape Eastwatch and Warn the Northern Forces About the Wall Breach?
HBO

Theory: Will Tormund Escape Eastwatch and Warn the Northern Forces About the Wall Breach?

As we all saw in season seven, major characters don't really die off, which has led us to assume that Tormund and Beric Dondarrion are both still alive and about to cause some major drama by spilling the details about the Wall breach and undead dragon to Winterfall.

Theory: Will Sansa Tell Off Jon For Bending a Knee?
HBO

Theory: Will Sansa Tell Off Jon For Bending a Knee?

Jon's decision to bend the knee to Daenerys was not in his best interest, and Sansa knows that best. We predict she will have a lot to say him to about making bad decisions without consulting the rest of the family first.

Theory: Will Jon Snow and Ghost Have a Reunion?
HBO

Theory: Will Jon Snow and Ghost Have a Reunion?

We haven't seen Ghost since season six, but that doesn't mean he won't make a comeback in season eight. What we are thinking is he will reunite with Nymeria and the two will make their way to Winterfell to join the Great War and ultimately reunite with their humans.

Theory: Will Sansa and Tyrion Reunite For the First Time Since They Got Married?
HBO

Theory: Will Sansa and Tyrion Reunite For the First Time Since They Got Married?

Since they wed, Sansa and Tyrion have both been on the run and have gone through their fair share of trials. But with the whole Targaryen camp going to Winterfell to get ready for the Great War, Sansa and Tyrion are more than likely to reunite, and we can't wait to watch it.

Theory: Will the North Reject Daenerys as Queen?
HBO

Theory: Will the North Reject Daenerys as Queen?

We already know the North doesn't appreciate when foreigners demand loyalty, so how will they react when Daenerys demands to rule them? We're thinking it won't go over super well, but since the North respects Jon, maybe it won't be that bad.

Theory: Will Brienne and Tormund Finally Figure Out Their Relationship?
HBO

Theory: Will Brienne and Tormund Finally Figure Out Their Relationship?

Since Tormund escaped Eastwatch and is coming to tell Winterfell of the danger ahead, that means he will be reunited with Brienne, and we think their time apart will help them both realize what they really want from each other. It's about time!

Theory: Will Jon and Arya Finally Reunite?
HBO

Theory: Will Jon and Arya Finally Reunite?

Jon and Arya have a unique and beautiful bond that we haven't seen in action for far too long. We predict season eight will include a tear-jerking reunion between the two, and we are more than ready to see it.

Theory: Will Arya and the Hound Reunite?
HBO

Theory: Will Arya and the Hound Reunite?

We have a hunch that Arya and the Hound will meet again in season eight, but what we don't know is how that meeting will go. The last time they were together, Arya left him for dead, so this reunion will be really interesting to watch, to say the least.

Theory: Will Theon Stop Euron and the Golden Company?
HBO

Theory: Will Theon Stop Euron and the Golden Company?

Theon vows to save his sister at the end of season seven, and we think this will lead to him attempting a heroic move like sinking Euron's fleet . . . which will be carrying the Golden Company. Whether or not this will go well, we can't wait to see what happens.

Theory: Will Yara Come Back?
HBO

Theory: Will Yara Come Back?

Since Theon's main reason for leaving Dragonstone is to save Yara, we are more than certain that we will see him again in season eight. What he will do is still in question, but we are all for it.

Theory: Will Daario Make an Appearance?
HBO

Theory: Will Daario Make an Appearance?

Because Daario is a mercenary warrior, we are predicting he will probably make an appearance in season eight when Theon faces off with Euron. We would love to see Daario Naharis again, and that's not just because he is extremely good looking.

Theory: Will Daenerys Become Pregnant?
HBO

Theory: Will Daenerys Become Pregnant?

We know Daenerys thinks she can't become pregnant, but we think otherwise. Now that she and Jon are getting it on, a surprise pregnancy wouldn't be totally out of the ordinary in season eight.

Theory: Will Jon Learn the Truth About His Parents and Claim the Throne?
HBO

Theory: Will Jon Learn the Truth About His Parents and Claim the Throne?

Now that Sam and Bran know about Jon's real parents, it's just a matter of time before he finds out the truth. How he finds out is what is up in the air . . .

Theory: Will Jon Struggle With His Targaryen Identity?
HBO

Theory: Will Jon Struggle With His Targaryen Identity?

Jon understands the difficulty of juggling more than one identity, and season eight will only emphasize how he does this. Who will he tell? How will he handle it? And what does it mean for his current relationships? We need answers!

Theory: Will Lyanna Mormont Fight in Battle?
HBO

Theory: Will Lyanna Mormont Fight in Battle?

Because Jon announced that every woman and child should learn how to fight, there's a good chance the little firecracker Lyanna Mormont will perhaps fight in battle. She's definitely tough enough to take the challenge.

Theory: Will Bran Warg Into Viserion?
HBO

Theory: Will Bran Warg Into Viserion?

As we have seen, Bran Stark can warg into animals and people, but what about the undead? If this happens, we are about to see yet another wild plot twist in the next season.

Theory: Will One of Dany's Dragons Die?
HBO

Theory: Will One of Dany's Dragons Die?

Because we think Rhaegal and Drogon will have to fight their brother in the Great War, death is more than likely for at least one of them. But we do predict they will bring down wight Viserion before they die.

Theory: Will Cleganebowl Finally Happen?
HBO

Theory: Will Cleganebowl Finally Happen?

Since season one, there's been talk of the infamous "Cleganebowl," when brothers the Hound and the Mountain will finally face each other in a fight to death, and there seems no better time to do this than in season eight.

Theory: Will Jaime Kill Cersei?
HBO

Theory: Will Jaime Kill Cersei?

We already know Cersei's prophecy says she will be killed by one of her brothers, and we think that brother will be none other than Jamie. He leaves her in the season seven finale, but we think he could very well come back and end her life right in its tracks.

Theory: Will Melisandre and Varys's Ambiguous Fates Be Faced?
HBO

Theory: Will Melisandre and Varys's Ambiguous Fates Be Faced?

Remember when Melisandre tells Varys they both have a part to play in Westeros and are ultimately destined to die there? Yeah, how could we forget? Well, we predict this warning will come to light and shake up the storyline even more.

Theory: Will the Identity of the Night King Be Revealed?
HBO

Theory: Will the Identity of the Night King Be Revealed?

The true identity of the Night King has been a mystery this whole time, but we predict season eight will expose who he really is. Will it be Bran or the God of Death or someone else completely different? All we know is we can't wait to find out.

Theory: Will the Identity of Azor Ahai Be Revealed?
HBO

Theory: Will the Identity of Azor Ahai Be Revealed?

The longest-standing prophecy has still not been fulfilled! "The Prince That Was Promised" absolutely has to be revealed in season eight. Is Azor Ahai Jon Snow, Ser Davos, Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys, or someone else completely? Give us the answer, season eight!

Theory: Will Bronn Finally Get a Castle?
HBO

Theory: Will Bronn Finally Get a Castle?

We all think he deserves a castle, so it would only make sense if he gets one in season eight.
