Here's a Complete Guide to Where Each Hero Winds Up in Avengers: Endgame

MASSIVE spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead!

By the end of Avengers: Endgame, it's fair to say that fans are probably feeling a little overwhelmed. And not only because the film is over three hours long and bladders will need to be relieved! The film has some incredibly high stakes and heartbreaking scenes that can get any loving fan choked up. Hell, even Chris Evans admits that he cried a whopping six times!

So, it's understandable that viewers may be too deep in their grief (or thinking about sweet relief) to recall exactly how the film ends. That's why we're here to provide you with a thorough rundown where we last see each Avenger by Endgame's conclusion.

Tony Stark/Iron Man

Tony Stark/Iron Man

By 2023, Tony is arguably living his best domestic life with Pepper and their young daughter, Morgan. But even the joys of composting can't keep him from saving the world, and his discovery on how to time travel with the Pym Particles leads to the Avengers collecting all the Infinity Stones.

In the epic battle against Thanos, Iron Man lands the finishing blow when he steals the stones straight out of Thanos's golden glove and slots them into the makeshift gauntlet in his suit. He snaps his fingers and kills Thanos and his army, who all disintegrate the same way people did in Infinity War. The snap sends an overwhelming wave of gamma energy through his body, instantly frying his body. Pepper and Peter Parker run to Tony's side as he slowly dies, finally having avenged the world and leaving it a safer place for his daughter.

Steve Rogers/Captain America

Steve Rogers/Captain America

As Endgame draws to a close, Steve volunteers to bring the Infinity Stones to their own timeline. Hulk, Sam, and Bucky stick around to await his return and panic when he doesn't come back in the designated time. As Bucky and Sam search their surroundings, the former notices an older man sitting by the lake nearby and encourages Sam to approach him.

When Sam gets closer, he realizes that the old man is actually Steve, who has aged a good 100 years or so. Older Steve tells him that he used his last time jump to go back and marry the "love of his life" Peggy Carter. He lived out a long and happy life with her and came back to pass on the Captain America mantle to his friend, Sam. He jokes that he finally went and "got a life," just like Tony was always telling him to.

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

Nat's journey in Endgame concludes a bit earlier than everyone else's. After the Avengers figure out how to use Pym Particles to time travel, they separate into groups to go back in time and collect the Infinity Stones. Hawkeye and Black Widow are assigned to grab the Soul Stone, which can only be retrieved by exchanging a life for a life. The two struggle with one another as both try to save the other from jumping. In the end, Nat succeeds in getting Clint to let her go and plummets down the cliff to her death.

Marvel is planning a standalone Black Widow movie, so this isn't the final time we'll see Nat, but it is the end of her journey with the Avengers.

Thor Odinson
Everett Collection

Thor Odinson

Thor undergoes one of the biggest transformations in Endgame and manages to find some closure regarding the death of his family, thanks to a talk with his late mother (there's seriously a lot of time traveling). He gets his mojo back just in time to join Steve and Tony in the battle against Thanos and gleefully accepts the former's use of his beloved hammer. When it all dies down (is it too soon to use that phrase?) Thor decides to leave New Asgard under the leadership of its new Queen, Valkyrie, and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy. Fingers crossed he shows up in GOTG 3 — we would totally be into a MCU adaptation of the Asgardians of the Galaxy comic run.

Bruce Banner/The Hulk

Bruce Banner/The Hulk

After using the gauntlet to snap everyone back, Bruce's arm is badly damaged from the gamma radiation. Before Steve travels back to return the stones, Bruce admits that he tried to will Nat back to life along with everyone else. But, like Gamora, her death occurred outside the power of the stones and thus cannot be reversed. We're not sure where Bruce will show up again, but Mark Ruffalo is already tapped to appear in one more MCU film, so we'll definitely be seeing him again. The real question is whether or not he'll still be in his Professor Hulk form.

Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier

Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier

Steve officially retires from being Captain America and offers the mantle to Sam. The former Falcon accepts the shield and presumably leaves with Bucky. The two have a show in development for Disney's streaming site, so we'll be seeing more of them soon!

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

When Wanda returns with the rest of the dusted heroes, she is pivotal in the battle against Thanos. In the end, she's seen at Tony's lakeside funeral, and later, is shown with Hawkeye as the two reminisce about Natasha.

T'Challa/Black Panther and Shuri

T'Challa/Black Panther and Shuri

Black Panther and his sister return with the rest of the dusted and appear with the rest of Wakanda just in time to aid the Avengers in battle against Thanos. At the end of the film, we see T'Challa, Shuri, and their mother back in Wakanda, where the city is alive and thriving.

Clint Barton/Hawkeye

Clint Barton/Hawkeye

Hawkeye begins the film losing everything when his wife and three children are dusted along with the Snap. He survives the all-out superhero brawl against Thanos's army and reunites with his family in the end. Clint is reportedly tapped to feature in his own Disney+ show, so maybe we'll be seeing him and his daughter show off more of their archery skills.

Loki
Everett Collection

Loki

The Loki who died during Thanos's pursuit of the stones in Infinity War is still very much dead. But the Loki from 2012 that manages to steal the Tesseract after Tony and Scott let it slip when they travel back in time, is probably wrecking havoc all over his timeline. His adventures will most likely be featured in the future Disney+ series soon to be released!

Hope van Dyne/The Wasp and Scott Lang/Ant-Man
Everett Collection

Hope van Dyne/The Wasp and Scott Lang/Ant-Man

After pitching the idea for the "time heist" and being instrumental in finding the Infinity Stones, the film's conclusion finds Scott reunited with Hope and an older version of his daughter, Cassie.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Peter returns to school, obviously an emotional wreck after the death of his mentor, but he sees Ned and the two embrace. Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to hit theaters on July 5, so we'll see more of Peter's recovery (and why all his friends still look the same age, though we're assuming they were also Snapped).

Gamora
Everett Collection

Gamora

The Gamora of the Avengers's timeline doesn't come back with Bruce's snap because her death occurred outside of the gauntlet's power. But the Gamora from 2014 turns against Thanos and helps Nebula escape his clutches before she disappears after the battle. It seems like she sparked a fire in Star-lord because he's shown searching for any sign of her while on the Benatar with the other Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the film.

Nebula

Nebula

Nebula has a rough time during Endgame. Once the time-heist kicks off, she and Rhodey successfully nab the power stone in 2014, but she's captured by Thanos before she can go back to her time. She survives the following blowout thanks to a rescue by 2014's Gamora and ends the film back with the Guardians of the Galaxy on their ship.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy

Rocket is finally reunited with his fellow Guardians of the Galaxy (Star-Lord, Mantis, Groot, and Drax) when they return after Bruce's snap brought them back. They all engage in the superhero brawl and are shown back together on the Benatar, with Thor tagging along. The Guardians have another adventure to prepare for with GOTG 3, and it looks like it may involve a search for 2014's Gamora, who is wandering around the universe.

Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong
Everett Collection

Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong

The two sorcerers don't come into play until later in the film when they and the other Masters of the Mystic Art bring all the dusted warriors to the battlefield to fight Thanos. During the climax of the film, Strange reveals to Tony that this timeline is the singular successful one he saw in his vision back in Infinity War, spurring the other to take his chance to defeat Thanos — even knowing that it will end his life. Later, Strange is seen at Tony's lakeside funeral, and it's safe to assume he retreats back to the New York Sanctum with Wong afterward.

Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel
Everett Collection

Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel

Though Carol doesn't have as huge a role in Endgame as expected, she does feature in the beginning when the Avengers first attempt to get the Infinity Stones from Thanos. Five years into the future, she's busy helping other planets in the galaxy with their struggles after the Snap (though Rocket notes that she does have time to get a VERY striking haircut), but she does comes back in time to join the battle against Thanos. In the end, she's seen at Tony's lakeside funeral with the other Avengers.

Thanos
Everett Collection

Thanos

2018's Thanos retires in peace after his fatal snap, before he's killed by Thor when the Avengers seek him out for the Infinity Stones. Thanos makes a return when a past version of him travels to 2023 and attempts to battle for the Infinity Stones to destroy half the world all over again. Iron Man tricks him by stealing the stones from the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping his fingers, willing Thanos and his army away. The Mad Titan and his allies disintegrate, just like the people did in Infinity War.
