Check Out the New and Returning Stars Gearing Up For James Gunn's Suicide Squad Sequel

James Gunn gave a first look at the Suicide Squad sequel's characters during the virtual DC FanDome on Aug. 22. Though originally believed to be a reboot, the impending sequel will be a continuation that features familiar faces while also introducing new characters to carry on the franchise. While Will Smith won't be in the sequel due to scheduling conflicts, his exit did make way for Idris Elba to step in as a new character, so we're not too mad about it! Viola Davis as Amanda Waller
Davis will return as the brains behind Task Force X, aka the Suicide Squad. Squad members may come and go, but Waller will always be back to command her rowdy pack of deviants to do her bidding.

Kinnaman will return to bring back Waller's right-hand man, who ensures the Suicide Squad behave themselves and constantly reminds them that he's capable of detonating the micro bombs implanted inside them.

Elba originally signed on to replace Smith as Deadshot, but in the interest of leaving Smith the opportunity to return to the franchise in the future, he's taking on the role of Bloodsport.
