Reeves confirmed Serkis's casting on Nov. 13, 2019. Alfred has previously been portrayed in film by Michael Caine in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Michael Gough in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman film series, and Jeremy Irons in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League.
