The Cast For the Dear Evan Hansen Movie Is Coming Together — Yes, Ben Platt Included

Dear Evan Hansen is going from the stage to the screen! The hit Broadway musical is being adapted as a movie by Universal Pictures, and details are quickly coming together. Stephen Chbosky, who directed the 2017 film Wonder, is in talks to direct, with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel as producers. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who wrote the music and lyrics for the musical, will also serve as executive producers, and Dear Evan Hansen's playwright Steven Levenson will write the script.

Of course, the biggest question on everyone's minds is: who will star? Thankfully, Ben Platt, who originated the role and won a Tony for his performance, has already been tapped to star. Julianne Moore as Heidi

The actress will play Evan's mom, Heidi, in the movie. The role was originally played by Rachel Bay Jones, who won a Tony for her performance.

Amy Adams as Cynthia Murphy

The actress will play the mother of Connor and Zoe Murphy in the film. Needless to say, we can't wait to hear her rendition of "Anybody Have a Map?"

Danny Pino as Connor and Zoe's Stepfather

The Cold Case actor will play the husband of Cynthia Murphy and the stepfather of Zoe and Connor. In the original musical, Michael Park played Zoe and Connor's biological father, Larry Murphy, but the character is being reconceived for the movie.

Amandla Stenberg as Alana

The Hate U Give star is in talks to play Evan's overachieving classmate Alana. The character, originated by Kristolyn Lloyd in the musical production, will reportedly have a bigger role in the movie including a new song, which Stenberg is writing alongside lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Kaitlyn Dever as Zoe Murphy

The Booksmart actress has been tapped to play Evan's longtime crush Zoe Murphy, who was originally played by The Politician actress Laura Dreyfuss. Thankfully, Platt and Dever seem to have a good rapport already. The two have mutual friends and have attended a handful of events together.

Ben Platt as Evan Hansen

The actor is expected to reprise his role as the title character who deals with social anxiety.
