Season three ends with Midge's comedy career in limbo after being kicked off Shy Baldwin's tour for accidentally almost outing him during a set. A new trailer shows Midge demanding to become a headliner, telling Susie, "No more opening act gigs. I will only do gigs where I can say what I want."
Both Midge and Susie are in dire financial straits now, with the tour abruptly ended. Susie is in trouble with gambling debts and no incoming money to pay them, while Midge had just bought her old apartment back from Moishe with the promise of her tour income to make payments.
Midge's love life has taken a few turns, too. Her ex-husband, Joel, has found new love with medical student Mei, while Benjamin reappears to vent his frustrations about her sudden breaking of their engagement, and a chemistry-laden night out with Lenny ends with Midge deciding not to cross that line with one of her best friends.
