Only Murders in the Building: We Finally Know Who's Responsible For Tim Kono's Death

The murder mystery on Hulu's Only Murders in the Building has officially come to an end. Starring Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, the series follows a group of tenants living in NYC who find out that one of their neighbors, Tim Kono, has been murdered. After bonding over their love of a true crime podcast, Gomez, Short, and Martin's characters team up to get to the bottom of Tim's mysterious death while documenting the whole experience with a podcast of their own. However, as new motives come to light, everyone begins to feel like a prime suspect, including Gomez's Mabel who has a mysterious past with Tim. Now that the series has wrapped up, let's break down who's behind Tim's death.

Howard

Something about Howard felt off to us throughout the entire season, but turns out, he was harmless.

05
Mabel

Mabel

It was hard to believe that Mabel would be digging into a murder she committed, and by episode two, it was confirmed that she wasn't Tim's killer.

04
Oscar

Oscar

Before we learned that Oscar was the mysterious "tie-dye guy," he was one of the most likely suspects for Tim's murder. After all, he was spotted going up the staircase to the roof the night of Tim's murder. However, he eventually told Mabel that while he intended to visit Tim that night, when he got to his apartment door, he heard a gunshot and left the building.

Teddy Dimas

In episode five, it's revealed that Tim was in the process of taking down a black market jewelry kingpin who goes by the name of Angel before his death. After discovering a ring Zoe wore the night she was killed might be connected to the black market jeweler, Mabel decides to dig deeper. In episode six, we are presented with yet another twist when Charles and Oliver theorize that Teddy Dimas, aka the sponsor for their podcast, is actually the mysterious Angel. However, Teddy didn't turn out to be the killer.

Theo Dimas

Theo Dimas

There was a good chance Theo Dimas was responsible for Tim's death, considering he was the only one who witnessed Theo accidentally pushing Zoe off the building. Despite all the signs, Theo was not the killer.

01
Jan
Hulu

Jan

Based on her disastrous first date with Charles, it was clear that there was more to Jan than met the eye, and it turns out, our instincts were spot on. After the gang found out that Tim had apparently been involved with a woman who was loud in bed, they discovered a sex toy in Tim's apartment. However, they later found out that it was actually a swab for cleaning bassoons, and who just so happens to be a professional bassoon player? Yep, that's right! It was Jan all along.

By the season finale, she admits to Charles that she's the killer and even attempts to poison him. However, Charles was already on to her, so she doesn't succeed. But Jan doesn't stop there! She ends up leaking gas into the building in an attempt to kill the gang in the basement for everything they know, but Mabel takes matters into her own hands and punches her in the face. Shortly after, the police arrive and Jan is arrested for Tim's murder.
