Retiring Detective Lieutenant William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) is tasked to work a series of brutal killings in his unnamed city. Somerset is paired with younger and idealistic Detective David Mills (Brad Pitt), and the two slowly start to piece together that the killings are inspired by the seven deadly sins, with each murder representing one of the seven sins.
