The 1990s were filled with plenty of grim, apocalyptic films. Armageddon, similar in plot to Deep Impact, which was released in the same year, centers on human efforts to stop a large meteor from coming into contact with Earth and wiping out all of humanity. Following a meteor shower that impacted New York City, NASA scientists detect a meteor the size of Texas is headed straight to Earth. To prevent this catastrophic event from occurring, NASA enlists the help of deep-core driller Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis) to go to space and drill a nuclear bomb in the meteor to destroy it.
