Who Killed Xavier on "The Afterparty"? 6 Theories

Apple TV+

Apple TV+'s "The Afterparty" stars Tiffany Haddish as a detective on a case to figure out who's behind the murder of a popular Bay Area celebrity, Xavier (Dave Franco). When Xavier turns up dead after he throws an afterparty for his class reunion at his fancy mansion overlooking the water, it becomes a race to figure out who did it. To say this group of former classmates is friends would be a wild overstatement, so practically everyone is a suspect. Each episode zeroes in on one of the party guests — but it's hard to tell which parts of their stories are real and which parts are fiction. At this point, anyone could be the culprit, but here are our top guesses for who killed Xavier.

Did Brett Kill Xavier on "The Afterparty"?

Brett's (Ike Barinholtz) main motive for going after Xavier is the fact that Xavier is going after Brett's ex-wife, Zoe (Zoe Chao). Xavier makes it clear to Brett that he's going to pursue Zoe at the reunion, and Brett threatens Xavier in the bathroom. They also seemingly get into a confrontation at Xavier's house soon before Xavier falls to his death. It could be that Brett's rage over Xavier pursuing Zoe got the best of him.

Did Aniq Kill Xavier on "The Afterparty"?

Aniq (Sam Richardson) is also pursuing Zoe the night of the reunion, and he is also none too pleased when Xavier swoops in for her attention. Though Aniq and Zoe are clearly hitting it off at the reunion, Xavier takes Zoe to his house in a helicopter, leaving Aniq behind, which he is not happy about. Then, at the afterparty, he is very out of it — whether he's wasted or has been drugged is still a bit unclear — but he ends up passed out on the floor. When he comes to, he immediately blames Xavier for the incident and seeks him out. Soon after, Xavier turns up dead. Did Aniq's anger over Xavier stealing Zoe's time from him push him to the edge . . . literally? It's possible.

Did Zoe Kill Xavier on "The Afterparty"?

Oh, Zoe. She's caught between multiple people vying for her attention during the night — her ex Brett; the one she's interested in, Aniq; and Xavier. She keeps finding herself in Xavier's company, but in actuality, Zoe has no interest in Xavier and even says so at one point. We don't yet have the full story on what goes down between Xavier and Zoe while they're talking on the balcony, but seeing how scummy Xavier's been so far, we wouldn't be surprised if he said something completely vile and she flipped out and pushed him. It could be that it was an accident, but she's definitely a suspect in all this.

Did Walt Kill Xavier on "The Afterparty"?

Who even is Walt (Jamie Demetriou)? To be honest, no one seems to know. The poor guy is constantly asking his "classmates" what his name is, and literally no one can remember. Is he even a classmate at all? Has he infiltrated the reunion with an ulterior motive to off Xavier? Is he an obsessed fan who wants to kill Xavier? We don't know yet, but he's definitely sketchy.

Did Yasper Kill Xavier on "The Afterparty"?

Yasper (Ben Schwartz) just wants to make it big. He and Xavier had their own band back in the day — Ska-pe Diem — and Yasper is understandably not happy that he got left behind by his old friend. He tries to get Xavier to make music with him so he can finally get his moment, but Xavier doesn't show up in the studio to meet him. Though Yasper then goes to find him and runs into Aniq instead, there definitely would have been time for him to find Xavier and push him off the cliff.

Chelsea (Ilana Glazer) is still a bit of a mystery so far, but her flask does turn up near Xavier after his death. We're not super sure what her motive could have been if she did kill him, but she didn't exactly seem like Xavier's biggest fan.
