3 Theories About What's Behind Laurie's Locked Door on "Euphoria"

Things are definitely taking a turn for the worse on "Euphoria" after the Feb. 6 episode. Rue (Zendaya) is spiraling out of control with her substance abuse — screaming at her friends and family, stealing, running from the cops, and falling in deeper with the wrong crowd. She'd already gotten mixed up with Laurie (Martha Kelly), a drug dealer who is cold and ruthless, in the premiere, and now that she owes her money, she's in an even worse predicament.

When Rue shows up to Laurie's apartment to try to give her the $2,000 she stole and convince her she'll pay the rest back later, we get a glimpse of just how cold the woman can be. Not only does Laurie inject Rue with morphine in an absolutely bone-chilling scene, but she also piques the teen's interest with a locked door with something mysterious behind it. Despite her best efforts while trying to escape Laurie's house undetected, Rue is never able to open the door, which means we have no idea what Laurie is hiding behind it. We have a few ideas, though.

Are Girls Being Sex Trafficked Behind Laurie's Door on "Euphoria"?

One of the strongest theories floating around is that there are girls who Laurie is trafficking behind that door.

Though some Twitter users have made jokes about Laurie being a sex trafficker following her threats to Rue, others have taken her threats more seriously and think Rue is actually in danger.

Fans on Twitter noted they heard scratching behind the door, and other viewers on Reddit noted that Laurie's birds conveniently make noise when there seems to be noise behind the door, as if Laurie'd trained them to cover it up. Plus, when Rue's desperate for a fix because she's experiencing withdrawal symptoms, Laurie eerily tells her women are lucky because they always have something to sell, aka their bodies.

Are More Drugs Behind Laurie's Locked Door on "Euphoria"?

Laurie is a drug dealer, so it stands to reason that she's probably well-stocked with drugs. Hence, it's possible there is just a giant stash of them behind the locked door. Though we've seen her pull drugs out from behind other locked doors, someone as well-connected as she is could easily have multiple rooms with drugs inside.

Are People Who Owe Laurie Money Behind Her Locked Door on "Euphoria"?

If Laurie's not hiding drugs or women to be sex trafficked, it's possible she's hiding other addicts who owe her money back there. A few people on Reddit recalled situations where drug dealers would lock up addicts who owe them money until their debts were paid off. Plus, Laurie tells Rue she always gets her money back. If Rue doesn't pay, she may find herself locked up in Laurie's apartment until her debts are settled.
