"Never Have I Ever" Teases a "Banging Ending" For Devi and Friends in Season 4's New Trailer

Devi and the gang are ready to conquer their senior year of high school in "Never Have I Ever"'s fourth season. It's a bittersweet occasion as the upcoming installment marks the end of an era for the Maitreyi Ramakrishnan-led teen comedy. Netflix confirmed in March 2022 that season four will be its last. "We can't wait to reveal all the steamy romance and hilarious adventures we have in store for you," creator Mindy Kaling and showrunner Lang Fisher shared in a statement at the time. "Thanks to all our fans for your support — especially you #Bevi and #Daxton stans. We love you!"

Don't worry, "Never Have I Ever" fans: the show plans to send viewers off with a grand farewell before Devi and her friends graduate — and we finally know exactly what to expect. On April 13, 2023, Netflix unveiled first-look photos from season four as well as a video date announcement confirming when the show will return to our TV screens.

Then, on May 9, the streamer dropped the jam-packed trailer for the final season, teasing a "banging ending" for the hit series. As predicted, the season four preview confirms that it'll pick up on that shocking cliffhanger between Devi and Ben (Jaren Lewison) from season three's finale, which dropped on Aug. 12, 2022, as they've finally taken their love-hate relationship to *that* level. And, of course, all sorts of other crazy adventures from our favorite nerd are teased as she finishes out her last year at Sherman Oaks High — from an unpredictable prom night to more boy drama with a new handsome face on the show.

In a previous interview with POPSUGAR, Kaling touched on why she's ending her beloved TV creation after four seasons. "In the beginning, I thought, 'Oh, I could do this show forever and ever,' but then you see these kids and it's scary how old they look by the end of the season," she said. "Then you wait a year to shoot again, and you're like, 'Oh, this is why high school shows wrap it up in four seasons.' When [showrunner Lang Fisher] suggested, 'What if we try to do all of their storylines in four years?' it really did end up making sense."

Why Is "Never Have I Ever" Ending After Season 4?

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight in April 2022, Kaling opened up about why she feels season four is the time to end the show. "Four seasons for a high school show felt like it made sense," she explained. "They can't be in high school forever. We've seen those shows. Like, you've been in high school for 12 years. What is going on here? Also, the actors get older and it starts looking insane that a 34-year-old is playing a 15-year-old."

She continued, "The great thing about doing it on Netflix is that we got to tell stories that you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell in traditional network shows, and so we feel good. We really told the story of this 15-year-old girl, and that felt like the perfect amount of time."
