"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Renewed For Season 2 Ahead of Premiere

Season one of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" hasn't even premiered yet, but the show has already been renewed for a second season. After the latest trailer dropped on May 31, Prime Video announced its plans to continue the story on June 8. "When I decided to adapt summer for television, I knew we'd need more than one season to honor the story we are telling," Jenny Han said in a press release. "To receive a second season pickup ahead of the premiere of season one is beyond my wildest dreams. I am so grateful to Amazon Studios for this amazing vote of confidence in our show, and cannot wait to bring our incredible team back together to tell the next chapter in our story."

Based on the trailer alone, it looks like fans of Han are in for a real treat. The show, which is based on Han's book series of the same name, stars Lola Tung as Isabel "Belly" Conklin, and it seems like it's going to be just as charming as the book.

"It's all the thrill and excitement of first love and what it's like to really love someone from afar your whole life and then suddenly be interacting with them in a new way," Han told Entertainment Weekly about the series. "We'll see the night swims and big crushes and all those sort of big, epic love moments this season. I did try to drop in a lot of Easter eggs throughout the series for the fans of the books."

Han said that there will be quite a few changes from the book series. "It's about distilling what are the most important pieces of the story, and I hinged it around those big moments that I thought were really important to the fans," she said. "I continually asked myself, what do the fans care most about, what do they want to see the most, what are those big tentpole moments, and trying to make sure that I deliver those while still allowing myself room to expand and find new ways into the story."

Han also promised that the characters fans already love will be joined by brand-new characters created just for the show. Read on for all the details we have about "The Summer I Turned Pretty," including the cast, crew, plot, release date, photos, and trailers.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Season 2

The book series "The Summer I Turned Pretty" consists of three books: "The Summer I Turned Pretty," "It's Not Summer Without You," and "We'll Always Have Summer." Han told Entertainment Weekly that the first season covers the first book and that she hopes to make two more seasons covering each of the sequels.

"Originally, 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' was supposed to be just the one book, but I wanted to spend each summer of her life with her in that story," Han said. "When I started writing it, I realized I needed more space to tell the story. I feel the same way about TV — I think that novels actually lend themselves really well to TV, because you just get a lot more time to really delve into the characters and be with them on their journey."

Well, her wish came true, because Prime Video renewed the show for a second season ahead of its premiere. "When I decided to adapt summer for television, I knew we'd need more than one season to honor the story we are telling," Han said in a press release. "To receive a second season pickup ahead of the premiere of season one is beyond my wildest dreams.
