Rebecca Mahoney explores intergenerational trauma and grief themes in her magical fantasy "The Memory Eater." In the caves of Whistler Beach, ME, lives the Memory Monster, who craves the hurtful memories of all who enter. The Harlow family have been left in charge of keeping the Monster caged from the rest of town, and it is 17-year-old Alana's turn at the mantle. As Alana helps visitors feed the Memory Monster, memories of her own are suddenly disappearing, and she learns the Monster has been eating her memories, including the knowledge of how to keep them locked away. With the Monster on the loose, Alana will have to chase down the painful memories the Monster has taken from her or risk losing her town, and herself, to the Monster's appetite.
