Taking staged photos of your baby every month for the first year is now a common tradition among millennial moms. But no simple onesie sticker would suffice for little Gideon Kauffman.

"We wanted to document Gideon's milestones each month in a fun and unique way," mom Keren Sachs told POPSUGAR. She and her husband, Landis Kauffman, both love collaborating on creative projects and "played around with a few different ideas" before settling on a veggie theme. "We like to discover and prepare different seasonal vegetables."

So, at the start of each month, the family would shop for and select the vegetable, coordinate Gideon's outfit, and work together to capture the precious moment.

"The vegetables represent what was in season," Keren told us. "Gideon was a Summer baby, so we would take long walks together through our neighborhood and to the local farmers market. One day the garlic scapes, which are only in season for a very short time, grabbed my attention. It all just came together and at the time we had a very willing model!"

They bookended their veggie portrait series with a 12-month shot incorporating those back-in-season garlic scapes, but they discovered it took a bit more finesse to write out twelve rather than one.

Perhaps their favorite moment, though, was their 3-month photo, a time when Gideon wasn't even eating solid foods, let alone crunchy vegetables, yet. "For us watching Gideon start to engage with the vegetables was really exciting," Keren recalled. "When he grabbed the carrot, I couldn't stop laughing. . . . It was perfect!"

If you think such a delectably clever idea is too hard to achieve, fear not. As Keren said: "The setup was simple — anyone can do this! We used an old blanket as the backdrop and I shot all the images with my iPhone. Landis worked his fatherly magic to get the smiles!"
