Toddler Steals Baby Jesus (and the Show) During a Nativity Play, and We're Crying Laughing

Keeping an eye out for thieves, especially during the holiday season, is always a good practice, but sometimes there's a wolf in sheep's clothing that's initially hard to spot. Take Teegan Benson, a 2-year-old from Tennessee, who was caught on tape snatching baby Jesus from his manger during her church's nativity play dressed as — you guessed it — a sheep.

Teegan's mom, Tana Benson, caught the kidnapping on tape and thankfully posted the video to Facebook so the rest of us could have a good laugh. She explained how the crime went down, saying: "My little sheep took the baby Jesus, breaking all the rules leaving poor little Mary no choice but to take action! Momma . . . tried her best to protect her baby at all costs. Definitely a program I will remember. LOVE these kiddos and my church family! Laughed so hard I cried!"

After swiping the Jesus doll from the manger, Teegan broke out in the most adorable dance, and the 3-year-old toddler playing Mary was not having it. She decided to restore order in the otherwise hilariously chaotic rendition of "Away in a Manger," and sure enough, a scuffle ensued.

"The little girl playing Mary is a middle child and a real stickler for the rules, and she knew that was not supposed to happen," Tana said in an interview with Today. "When I went up to take Teegan's hand and walk her off the stage, the little girl playing Mary said, 'She touched the baby Jesus! We weren't supposed to touch the baby Jesus!'"

According to Tana, her daughter has no problem being in the spotlight. "Teegan loves being the center of attention, so the more people laughed, the more excited she was to show her stuff."

So far, the post has racked up over 8.6 million views and more than 236,000 shares on Facebook. Tana explained she's hoping other parents find the clip as funny as she did. "I'm really glad that a video like this can bring some light into the season."
