Jamie Otis’s Daughter’s Name Actually Comes From a Mistake She Made About Her Husband’s Last Name

Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner have been very public with their lives since marrying each other within minutes of meeting on Married at First Sight in 2014, and on their fifth wedding anniversary, Jamie revealed a fun little fact about their first morning together as husband and wife, and how it inspired their daughter's name. Jamie and Doug's rainbow baby, Henley Grace, was born in August 2017 — just over a year after the couple lost their first child, Jonathan Edward, at 17 weeks gestation — but her name was picked out way before she was conceived.

"I'm always asked how we came up with Henley's name and why I call her Gracie," Jamie wrote on March 24, exactly five years after her first morning waking up next to her husband Doug. "He looked over to me and said: 'You're Jamie Nicole Otis! And I'm . . . ' I looked at him and said, 'Douglas Edward . . . Henley?' We both laughed when he said: 'No. It's Hehner. My name's Douglas Edward Hehner.' We vowed in that moment that we would name our first dog Henley if we made this scientifically arranged marriage thing work."

As it turns out, Jamie, who was hesitant about her new marriage at first, fell deeply in love with Doug. Once the couple knew that they were indeed in it for the long haul, they talked about saving the name Henley to use if they had a daughter. "[The name] brings us full circle and we absolutely love what it means to us," she said.

However, even though their daughter's first name is Henley, Jamie and Doug typically refer to their 17-month-old as "Gracie." "Grace is her middle name. I wasn't planning on Grace being her middle name, but it was the only name that fit by the time we held her in our arms," Jamie wrote. "I had delivered her big brother, Johnathan Edward, at 17 weeks, and he went to be with the angels in heaven immediately. My heart never fully healed after losing our first-born son (I'm not sure it ever will), but the moment I held Henley in my arms I felt a love that is indescribable. She is my little saving Grace and she will forever be my Gracie Girl."
