Missouri Legislature Tries to Pass Pledge of Allegiance Bill

Missouri Tries to Institute Daily Recitation of Pledge of Allegiance in English

It used to be standard practice at the start of each school day, but soon it could be law. A bill requiring students in public schools to say the Pledge of Allegiance in English just passed the House in the Missouri state legislature. The state currently requires schools to recite the pledge at least once a week, but the bill would require it to be said every day and in English.

Advocates for the bill say it will promote unity, since English is the state's official language, but opponents feel it is discriminating against kids who may want to say the pledge in their native language.
