How a Red Light Bulb Changed Khloé Kardashian's Life as a Tired, New Mom
When it's the middle of the night, and your baby is fussing, there's always a good chance that whatever you do — changing a dirty diaper or giving them a bottle — will jostle them awake. And the idea of having to coax them back to dreamland is a daunting one.
Khloé Kardashian is currently in that phase of new parenthood, only she found an odd-yet-smart solution the rest of us can only wish we knew about when we were the ones unhappily awake at 3 a.m.
"Words I never thought I'd say . . . a red light bulb has changed my life," Khloé admitted in a post on her app. "I'm not kidding!"
She said she began using the colored bulb in baby True's nursery during late-night feedings because "red light doesn't really interfere with a baby's sleep." According to her research, white or blue lights trick the brain into thinking it is daylight. "A red light has a much higher wavelength and doesn't inhibit the body's secretion of melatonin, the hormone that helps you sleep. So right after she's done eating, she easily goes right back to sleep for the night."
So smart, right?
Still, red lighting during daytime hours might not be the nursery room vibe you're going for — and Khloé shares that sentiment. Her go-to fix, the Lucero Smart Bulb, can change to virtually any color, red or otherwise — all controllable with a smartphone app. Although she calls it her "middle-of-the-night miracle," the new mom has even begun using the bulb's features without True.
"You definitely don't need a baby to use it," she said. "Who doesn't love a little mood lighting, right? It's perfect for parties, relaxing, and Netflix and chilling, LOL. You can even schedule a specific color to go on just as you're waking up so you can ease into the morning with a soothing light."
Talk about a light-bulb idea!
