Jamie Otis Just Revealed She Had a "Chemical Pregnancy," and We Feel For Her

Ever since Married at First Sight's Jamie Otis lost her son Jonathan Edward at four months gestation in 2016, she's made it a point to be an open book on social media about her pregnancy struggle. Fortunately, Jamie and her husband Doug Hehner welcomed a daughter, Henley Grace, in 2017 and now they're planning to grow their family once again. In an honest Instagram post, Jamie explained how she recently experienced a setback in her journey known as a chemical pregnancy, or when you lose the child shortly after implantation.

"Sorry I've been MIA, this very bizarre positive pregnancy test then negative test then faint positive lines gave me hope that Gracie was going to become a big sis in nine months, but the night before last I began having terrible contraction-like pains and spotting," wrote Jamie. "Then over the night full blown everything — if you know what I mean."

Jamie explained that she had a hunch about what was going on given her training as a nurse: "I'm a nurse so I had my suspicions, but my midwife confirmed I had a chemical pregnancy."

Jamie eagerly shared her "faintest" positive pregnancy test on Sept. 1 before learning she lost the baby. Although she will never understand why some women have an easier time getting pregnant than others, she's forever grateful that Gracie's by her side.

"I don't know why some people have it seemingly SO easy to get preggers and carry their babies to term and others struggle? What I do know is that I am so, so thankful for this little girl [her daddy] right here," she said. "It's like she knew Mommy was in so much pain because she just wanted to be held and snuggled all night long."

Jamie thanked her supporters for all the positive vibes they've been throwing her way, despite being understandably frustrated.

"I also want to THANK YOU," she said. "I was hoping that if I put it out there that maybe all your prayers and positive energy would help me along this pregnancy because there is no doubt in my mind that all your support and encouragement while I was pregnant with Gracie helped me have such a smooth pregnancy. I'll forever be grateful for YOU."

Although Jamie and Doug have to wait a cycle before trying for another child, she's determined to keep trying.

"We have to wait a cycle before trying again, but I am on a mission to make Gracie a big sis now," she wrote. "Has this happened to anyone else where you go through a loss and then all you want — the only healing thought — is to become pregnant with a healthy pregnancy?! This happened to me after our sweet Johnathan and the same feelings have come back."
