Candice Huffine's Response to All Those Curvy-Girl Fashion Rules Deserves a Round of Applause

If you've ever been told you shouldn't wear something soley because of your size, we hope you immediately rolled your eyes and swatted away that thought. The fact of the matter is that it truly comes down to styling and finding flattering options that work for your specific shape. No one knows that better than curvy model Candice Huffine, who shared her thoughts on all those fashion "rules" before the CFDA Awards.

"I feel like we've done a pretty good job at dispelling those myths within the past few years," she told us just hours before the event. "Bloggers, curvy models, and all of us who put out our personal style quite often have proven what you can do and should do, and can try and should try. We threw the stripes myth out the window, crop tops out the window. It's an exciting time for curvy women to get dressed because they can do all the things and they have the options to wear them."

On the Future of "Plus-Size" Fashion

"I think the reason we haven’t let go of the labels is because we haven’t come up with a better solution. And once department stores and shops can figure out a way to blend things that makes sense for the consumer, that’s going to be a great thing. It’s just a matter coming up with the best solution and doing [it], really, because a girl who is a size 14 has friends who are a 6, and they definitely want to shop together. That day is coming. I think women are only just so vocal recently and have the platforms to be vocal on, and it’s helpful because it gets the brands, the stores, and everyone listening."

"It's the most 'me' dress that I’ve ever had the privilege to put on. It’s sexy but menswear-inspired, and it’s cool and chic. When I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh wow, that’s me in a dress.’ But, trust me, I like to try everything. I think my signature style is kind of classic with edge."

"I always admire the style of Carine Roitfeld on the red carpet because you can tell she’s just always herself — cool, French, chic. And just when I'm overthinking something or am about to step out of the house just totally overdone, I sort of just think about her and am like, ‘You know what? You can just chill. Just be. Just be cool.’"

On How She Manages to Stay Confident

"I always say 'find your happy' — the things that make you the happiest. Love yourself, be yourself, and own that. You don’t notice anything negative when you’ve created a positive bubble around yourself and your own fortress, in a way."
