Sound Familiar? Erdem's Fashion Week Collection Paid Homage to an American Starlet Who Married an Aristocrat
While Roland Mouret was giving no hints as to any involvement in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding when he staged his London Fashion Week show, another royal favorite, Erdem, did give us something to think about when he sent a model down the runway in a silver and white evening dress and dotted veil. A key inspiration for the Erdem show was Adele Astaire, older sister of Fred Astaire, who has a little something in common with Ms. Markle: she married Lord Charles Cavendish, second son of the ninth Duke of Devonshire, which meant leaving her dancing days behind to live the life of a lady in a castle in Ireland.
While it's unlikely Meghan's planning to sport that fresh-off-the-runway flapper dress at her May wedding, there were plenty of styles here that both she and fellow Erdem addict Kate Middleton will no doubt work into their royal wardrobes. Kate is a fan of Erdem's luxurious but modest evening dresses in brocade, velvet, and lace, while Meghan's been spotted in the designer floral day dresses. Neither of these were in short supply, but there were also tweedy trousers, heavy jacquard capes, and stunning Winter coats, all fit for a princess. Take a look for yourself ahead.
