1 Baldwin
After being approached in his Kansas City, MO, boutique by customers looking for great American-made denim, Matt Baldwin answered the call. In 2009, he launched Baldwin, a brand that gained popularity for its classic silhouettes and fine craftsmanship. Designed in Baldwin's Missouri home base, the collection's authentic washes — like these painterly The Kennedy Jeans in Pollock ($395) — are inspired by customers' own broken-in denim.
2 3x1
Run and operated out of a 24-person glass-enclosed manufacturing facility in New York's SoHo neighborhood, 3x1 houses the world's largest selvedge denim collection. The impressive assortment, which includes 800 different fabrics, is carefully sourced from some of the industry's rarest mills. Founded by denim veteran Scott Morrison, the label puts a premium on those materials with expert construction and thoughtful distressing, as seen on the popular Higher Ground Boyfriend Crop Jeans in Rushmore ($295).
3 Re/Done
There's nothing like the original — and Re/Done knows just that! The LA-based brand pays homage to the Levi's legacy by repurposing its vintage pairs with modern and updated fits. Founded by Sean Barron and Jamie Mazur, the label keeps an eye on sustainability by reworking fabrics, and styles like the Straight Skinny Jeans ($305) have become instant classics in their own right.
4 GRLFRND
Following a soft launch at the 2015 Coachella Music Festival, GRLFRND had an immediate hit on its hands! The brand, which derived its name from your best friend and style confidant, was the brainchild of ecommerce brand Revolve and is designed and manufactured in Los Angeles. Inspired by model-off-duty style, each design is named for a famous leggy lady, like the flattering Natalia High-Rise Skinny Split Jeans ($228).
5 NSF
This Southern California label is true to its roots with understated and casual-cool designs like the Maggie Pants in Harbor ($449). An abbreviation of founder Nick Friedberg's initials, the brand launched in 2005 and gained popularity for its relaxed aesthetic. "Our denim is classic, straightforward, with a little dirt and a slouchy straight tomboy fit," NSF Creative Director and Designer Jamie Haller said. "Every pair of jeans is made in Los Angeles, with innovative hand executed washes and unparalleled quality craftsmanship."
6 Simon Miller
Launched in 2008 as a men's denim brand founded on the principles of premium Japanese quality and American craftsmanship, New York- and LA-based Simon Miller expanded to include women's denim — and thankfully so. Often inspired by the American Southwest, creative directors Daniel Corrigan and Chelsea Hansford create relaxed, easy, and effortlessly stylish silhouettes like the label's W005 Lamere Jeans in White ($245).
7 Adaptation
Founded in 2016 by Genetic Denim alum Ali Fatourechi after a brief hiatus from the industry, Adaptation celebrates LA culture and lifestyle through collaborations with local artists, not to mention those laid-back silhouettes. The label's vintage-inspired styles, like the Kick Flare Crop Jeans in Worn Light Indigo ($385), represent West Coast ease with relaxed, covetable silhouettes.
8 Frame
Don't be fooled by Frame's joint UK zip code, this denim label is all-American. Founded in 2012, this '70s-inspired label shares headquarters in London and Culver City, CA, and infuses European sensibility into American-crafted styles like the popular Nouveau Le Mix Jeans in Remix ($449).
9 Sandrine Rose
French-born Sandrine Abessera packed up her art school education and moved out to explore America's great outdoors when she founded Sandrine Rose in 2015. National landmarks like the Mojave Desert inform the rustic, relaxed designs, which often feature colorful, intricate embroidery inspired by the founder's travels. The styles, like the Crop Wide Leg Jeans in Estancia ($428), reference Abessera's art background and incorporate her knowledge and passion of painting, photography, and drawing.

True New Yorkers know — and live in — Rag & Bone, and it's with good reason. Founded in 2002, this downtown label incorporates British tailoring to create some of the sleekest, most impeccably fitting denim like the Capri Jeans in Hampton ($250). Working with some of the oldest factories in the country, the brand honors time-tested manufacturing practices while pushing the envelope with edgy, modern designs.
