It's that time of the year: the monotony of Winter has settled in, more current styles have started hitting shelves, and as a result I'm yearning to slip into breezy Spring pieces — if only the weather would cooperate. If you're anything like me, this is usually the point in the season when you're struggling to find the inspiration to break away from your tired (but reliable) standby outfit of jeans and a sweater. Luckily, I've found a way to get out of my rut, and it's all about incorporating interesting but easy-to-style pieces into the rotation. The best part? They're all closet staples that I can wear now — and later. Whether it's a pair of sandals with a plush Winter-appropriate texture or a blazer that's perfect for layering, ahead are pieces I'm eyeing to help me inject a little more creativity into my looks. Full disclosure: a few of them may have already ended up in my shopping cart!

01
A Plaid Blazer

A Plaid Blazer

Switch up your uniform and swap your sweater for a plaid blazer ($349). The tailored, menswear-inspired piece will add some structure and polish to an outfit, while the print gives it an on-trend twist. If it's still chilly out, I love the idea of layering the blazer over a hoodie in a similar gray hue for a monochromatic effect.

02
Furry Slides

Furry Slides

The contrast of plush sheepskin on a Summer sandal silhouette is what makes these UGG slides ($130) such great transitional shoes. The fur brings a luxe texture, and the millennial pink shade adds a pretty pastel pop to upgrade even the simplest of outfits.

03
A Denim Jumpsuit

If you just can't part with your jeans, a denim jumpsuit ($260) is almost the same thing — but way more interesting. Not only is the one-and-done piece just as effortless, if not more, than your most lived-in pair of jeans, but this retro-inspired cut will also be extra flattering. Wear it layered over a thin turtleneck now and on its own come Summer.

04
A Vintage-Inspired Blouse

If you're looking for something to replace your usual knit, try a button-down square-neck blouse ($88). It may seem simple, but it's the subtle detailing — from the pearl buttons to the puff shoulders — that makes this romantic, vintage-inspired piece stand out. Plus, the lightweight material will work just as well with a skirt or shorts once the weather warms up.

05
Polka-Dot Pants

Polka-Dot Pants

Polka dots are going to be everywhere this Spring and Summer. Get a leg up on the trend (pun intended) with a pair of wide-leg pants ($68). The black and white print makes it easy to go sophisticated in all neutrals or playful with vibrant punches.

06
A Sculptural Bag

A Sculptural Bag

All it takes is one really good accessory to take a lackluster look to a whole new level. This tortoiseshell bag ($378) is a work of art and is sure to be the pièce de résistance of any ensemble. The design may be inspired by the current basket bag trend, but the acrylic material is what makes it totally unexpected.

07
A Pinstripe Duster

A Pinstripe Duster

A robe jacket ($225) is one of my favorite ways to look pulled together in an instant. Because it's such a statement outerwear piece (even more so in a graphic print), you can easily get away with wearing something basic underneath — even if you revert back to your crutch of jeans and a sweater.

08
A Floral Dress

A Floral Dress

Inject a little Spring into your day-to-day outfit rotation with a ruffled-tiered floral-print dress ($198). Thanks to the longer length and darker hue, you can totally get away with rocking it now when combined with staples like a denim jacket and tall suede boots.

09
An Asymmetrical Skirt

An Asymmetrical Skirt

Between the oversize buttons, contrast seams, and fringe trim, this asymmetrical skirt ($80) has a lot of eye-catching design elements. But due to its neutral color and clean silhouette, it's just as easy to style as your go-to black jeans. Wear it with tall, slouchy boots now and bare legs later.
