6 Things to Know About Lanvin's Newly Appointed Head of Design

Since ousting Alber Elbaz after his 14-year tenure at Lanvin, the label struggled through Fall '16 Fashion Week with an interim design team. On Friday, they at last confirmed who would take Alber's place. Couturier Bouchra Jarrar will take the helm of womenswear, ushering in a new era for the brand. She Was Born in Cannes

The 45-year-old designer has lauded the work of '50s and '60s couturiers, like Cristóbal Balenciaga and Gabrielle Chanel, who "exalted women with their pristine and sculptural designs."

The Designer Comes From a Storied Fashion Background

After graduating from Paris's Duperré School of Applied Arts in 1994, Bouchra went on to hold positions alongside fashion greats like Jean Paul Gaultier, Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, and Christian Lacroix. After leaving her position as head of couture design at Lacroix, she founded her own couture label in 2010.

Her First Collection For Lanvin Will Show This Fall For the Spring '17 Season

Of the position, she said in a press release: "It is a huge honor to continue to promote the Lanvin style, with designs created in the company’s ateliers by teams who possess extraordinary expertise. Joining Lanvin meets a desire to expand my creation to wider fields of expression. It is my intention to bring to Lanvin the harmony and consistency of a fashion designed for women, a fashion of our time."
