Before the Oscars red carpet even wrapped, stars had already begun to step out at the 2023 Vanity Fair afterparty, where the fashion gets even more invigorating. It also means many actors who attend the ceremony opt for outfit changes. The annual late-night soirée, which attracts nearly every big name in Hollywood, was held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on March 12 in Beverly Hills, with celebrities such as Billie Eilish, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Kate Bosworth, Hunter Schafer, Hilary Duff, Emily Ratajkowski, Julia Garner, Olivia Wilde, and Rita Ora making headlines immediately upon their arrival.

Eilish stepped out with her beau, Jesse Rutherford, in a sheer Rick Owens gown made of tulle that many on the internet compared to a loofah. With built-up layers that extended into a heavy train that swept the floor behind her, the star's plunging Agent Provocateur corset could mostly be made out from the front of the dress at the neckline. When she turned to the side, Eilish showed off a pair of thigh-high stockings and leather platform boots — secret undergarments that were mostly hidden. Chrome Hearts custom-designed the musician's silver jewelry, and she wore her dark hair straight with long bangs. Thickly lined eyes and pale pink lips were the finishing touches. Rutherford's ensemble, meanwhile, worked as an elegant spoof on a clown costume, what with his red satin polka-dot necktie, colorful makeup, and blue suede loafers.

Garner chose a completely sheer, formfitting Off-White dress with a backless silhouette and a shimmering, wheel-like collar that was right in line with her avant-garde aesthetic. Wilde's Gabriela Hearst look was half bra, half dress, transformed into smoldering evening wear with the addition of a smoky eye and bedhead waves. And Ora selected a corset ballgown by Wiederhoeft, which exposed the tops of her thighs through a skirt made up of thin strips of tulle, attached to the bodice by delicate silver grommets. She and husband Taika Waititi made their Oscars red carpet debut as wife and husband following their August 2022 nuptials, so it was only appropriate that she wore bridal white for the occasion. Ora finished her ensemble with silver strappy Giuseppe Zanotti sandals to play up the hardware that trimmed her corset.

Other significant appearances included Kylie Jenner in Maison Margiela, Kendall Jenner in archival Jean Paul Gaultier, Gigi Hadid in custom Zac Posen, Janelle Monáe in an Area Couture number with low-swooping hip cutouts, and Ciara in a see-through netted Peter Dundas sheath that was exposing from every angle.
