14 Dress Brands I Shop at Revolve Because They Flatter My Small Chest
As a woman with a small chest, I take delight in the fact that I can pull off the bra-less look from time to time (depending on the moment and the material I'm wearing). I live for the evenings I get to slip into a design with an open back or something strappy without having to worry about things bunching up top or having to adjust my underwire. Sometimes it's so satisfying to put on a bold, complicated silhouette with a lot going on and actually feel comfortable. If you're trying to make that fashion move this holiday season with a statement dress or a going out top appropriate for New Year's Eve, Revolve is the place to shop.
Because the online retailer amasses an incredible amount of designers, all of which range in price point and style, you've got plenty of options that will flatter your figure and boost your confidence. I took the liberty of rounding up the brands that have become my go-to when browsing the site, mostly for the way I feel when I'm wearing them. There are those labels made for the bohemian girl, like Tularosa and House of Harlow 1960, and others known for structure and edge, like Grlfrnd and LPA. Check out the full list of brands that I've had success with ahead, and read up on the key reasons why.
Lovers + Friends
If you need an occasion dress, the Lovers + Friends stock changes with the season, but it's also a go-to for essentials like bodysuits and little crop tops at the same time. The statement dresses have killer detail (like the neckline above), so you can really play that up with some jewelry and feel free to go bra-less if added straps or defined lingerie is distracting.
The most striking H:ours pieces call for confidence, that's for sure. But when you see the silhouette that's right for you, you just know it'll flatter your figure. Take this cutout bodysuit, for example. As soon as I saw it, I knew I'd be wearing it on New Year's Eve. Plenty of the designs allow you to show a little extra skin, and if you have a smaller chest, there's less worry about your assets, ahem, falling out.
H:ours Attract Bodysuit in Gold ($178).
Even though Grlfrnd is really my go-to for denim, I always check out the full collection when I'm shopping on Revolve. I find that there are a lot of tops with deep plunges and bustiers that would prove quite challenging to wear without a bra if you had bigger breasts. Take this structured suit, for example. So long as you buy it in the right size, you should feel secure wearing these stunning separates for a holiday party.
L'Academie's pieces boast gorgeous colors and quality fabrics. The holiday collection is complete with statement-making sequins and satin, along with off-the-shoulder or cutout silhouettes that would be nice to try without anything underneath. I know I'd feel sexy in a long-sleeved look like this one, which is modest in the front and a little more alluring from the back.
Petersyn is probably one of the most fashion-forward brands from this bunch. The label puts all its trust behind trends, so when you're looking at its Victorian blouse or little plaid minidress, there's nothing subtle about the style. I'm absolutely wearing this bold look for Christmas Eve dinner, and I feel confident enough that the buttons will cinch me in around the bust area.
I know, I know. You probably didn't expect Mother Denim to make this list. But after becoming dedicated to the brand's jeans, I decided to try out the tops, and my goodness are they comfortable. I'm a big fan of wearing oversize tees in the softest fabrics without a bra — it makes me feel really sexy! — and Mother's vintage wash shirts make me feel the best.
X by NBD
X by NBD is a self-described party dress brand. I also like to shop from the selection during resort season, if I have a mid-Winter getaway. You'll find that the tops and dresses are big on texture, which adds dimension to your look. I feel the best when I'm wearing a dress like this one without anything underneath and barely any jewelry at all. It's a simple, clean date night go-to.
House of Harlow 1960 x Revolve
Nicole Richie's brand House of Harlow 1960 is for the bohemian queen who invests in a dreamy blouse whenever she can. There are plenty of colorful, dramatic gowns here too, but I love how effortless an off-the-shoulder look like this one feels. Thanks to the defined structure under the bust, I won't feel like my top is slipping down, which is something I struggle with from time to time.
I don't mean to play favorites, but OK, LPA is probably in my short list of top five favorite brands to shop at Revolve. My Winter pick, this button-front sweater dress, is actually pretty plain and unconventional for the brand, which is all about drama (think: animal prints, furry finishes, leather, jewel-toned velvet, and sequins). This season, though, every girl needs a ribbed sweater dress in her closet, and I like that the fabric is thick enough so that I'd feel comfortable unfastening a button or two and just working this with a soft bralette.
By the Way.
By the Way. is my easy go-to for minidresses. It's a no-brainer! The brand consistently churns out leggy little numbers that you'd quickly pair with heels for a night out. But if I'm making a statement in something sexy, I usually like to look for killer detail up top, like a superstrappy back or cutout detail that you wouldn't want to distract from with thicker bra straps. If that's the look you love, By the Way. is where it's at. This particular dress also happens to be on sale and available in two colorways.
By the Way. Petra Backless Mini Dress in Blush ($39, originally $68)
If you're a girl after my own heart, you love glitzy going out tops that you can throw on with jeans and call it a day. My favorite form of these is a bodysuit, so that everything stays tucked in cleanly. But if I want to avoid a bra or even pasties on a night out, I prefer ribbed material. There's plenty where that came from right here!
Tularosa is your one-stop shop for all things romantic. The dresses have tiers or ruffles with sleeves and the blouses and jackets hug and define your curves, rather than appearing shapeless or oversize. If you're looking to really add some volume up top, I recommend something from this brand.
Flynn Skye is all about flowy silhouettes and plenty of the brand's looks make for great vacation dresses. But I'm not about to dismiss the colors and prints that feel holiday appropriate. This cotton dress has delicate little buttons that clasp down the front of the bodice, making the resulting look fitted and flattering.
I'm a sporty girl with a small chest, and I absolutely love anything and everything that even slightly resembles a sports bra. This layered top is made from a marled knit that would look sleek and clean tucked into a pair of menswear inspired trousers — even joggers or track pants, for that matter!
