Everything You Need to Know About the Style on Scream Queens

Sure, we watch our fair share of fashionable TV shows, but rarely do we get as excited as we've been for Scream Queens. A horror-comedy created by the same guy behind Glee and American Horror Story? That description alone sounds like a recipe for a hit.

But perhaps the factor we're most looking forward to is the costumes: between the pastel hues, furry jackets, and layers of accessories, we know we'll be gathering outfit inspiration week after week.

So when we had the chance to sit down with the lady behind it all — costume designer Lou Eyrich, who recently won a Creative Arts Emmy for her work on AHS — we asked her to spill some behind-the-scenes secrets. Read on for 14 reasons fashion girls everywhere won't be able to stop watching this cool new show.

Lou has previously designed costumes for both Glee and Nip/Tuck, and recently won a Creative Arts Emmy for her work on American Horror Story. Clearly she's no stranger to dressing stars and finding what works for each character.

"The inspiration was certainly not based on reality. It came from a palette, in that [creator] Ryan Murphy wanted the palette to be all pastels. You know when you see a box of macarons and all those beautiful sugar colors — pink and pale yellow and blues and greens? I would look at the Chanels together, I would just see them as a box of macarons and all these sugary colors."

"We couldn't afford Chanel and I didn't want to knock off Chanel, so I used it as my inspiration, where it's always perfectly put together."

"There's a Queen Bee of the campus, so they need to be a step above everybody else because they think they're above everybody else. A lot of layers, a lot of accessories, hair baubles — just everything I could do to make them seem ridiculous and over the top, but oddly, you just want to dress like them because it's so fashionable and stylish."

"Once we really start moving and everyone gets to know their characters more, it becomes a collaboration. I try to work within what works for an actor as well. Like Jamie Lee Curtis — she knows what works on her, so I listen to her. I give Ryan what he wants, but also make her comfortable and feel great and in character."

"The younger women like Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, and Lea Michele know more about fashion. They stay on top of it a lot more than I do. They show me what Jeremy Scott is doing at Moschino and how amazing it is. They bring things to me that I can't possibly keep up with, and that's fun for me because I get to stay fresh and they get to wear things that [they like]."

"Accessorizing. Like Skylar's character — we had a little flared pant, boots, and a little sweater. It was fun, but it didn't really say much. Then, we added the plaid cap and a belt with a funny big belt buckle and a signature necklace, and it suddenly changed the look and made it much more street-style-wise. I would say accessories really added a lot. Usually I want to be simple, simple, but this was like the more the better."
