7 Valentine's Day Commandments Victoria's Secret Angels Swear By

Sure, we're looking forward to date night with our honey and giving fun gifts to our girls, but a big goal of ours this Valentine's Day (or, um, Valentine's Day night)? Channeling our inner Victoria's Secret Angel. Between the confidence those ladies exude and their ability to pull off a sexy lingerie set, we figure they've got plenty of tricks up their sleeves to make this holiday one to remember. So, naturally, we decided to ask 'em.

At an event promoting pieces perfect for Feb. 14, we chatted with two of the brand's newest Angels, Elsa Hosk and Jasmine Tookes, who had plenty of tips and tricks for us. Read on for seven commandments to follow for your sexiest celebration yet, then check out a few outfit ideas for whatever you've got planned.

01

Thou Shalt Rock Lingerie — Even If No One Sees It

Elsa's a fan of lacy items. "I love lace," she told us, commenting on how pretty it is. "Even if you don't see it and you're wearing clothes over it, you just feel sexy — like you have on something special."

02

Thou Shalt Never Commit This Fashion Faux Pas

When asked about her big Feb. 14 no-no, Elsa couldn't help but say the words we'd been thinking. "Granny panties. Like Bridget Jones panties," she replied. "I think for Valentine's Day it's all about bringing out your inner sexy."

03

Thou Shalt Teach Their Significant Other the Ropes

"My boyfriend never actually celebrated Valentine's Day until he met me," Jasmine revealed to us, referring to model boyfriend Tobias Sorensen. "I had to teach him, like, 'OK, you should probably get me flowers, take me to dinner. . . ' He had no idea. But I've trained him well. I always get really good gifts. I should have told him from the beginning that you need to get diamonds every year — I could have made up whatever I wanted!"

04

Thou Shalt Remember It's Not About Diamonds

Jasmine did joke about elaborate gift options, but the model's ideal Valentine's Day isn't about what she gets. "Just for him to be nice and loving and happy" is what she said she really wants. "I don't need diamonds."

05

Thou Shalt Not Overdo It

Reflecting on bad date looks from the past, both girls agree that men often think less is more. "Guys like simple in general," Elsa said. "Lingerie-wise, guys love the 'stay out' look — stockings, the whole thing. But [as for] the dress and hair and makeup side, they like simple. Any time I've gone crazy — lots of colors, vintage looks — they're like, 'No.'"

06

Thou Shalt Stick to the Classics

This Valentine's Day, the two Angels plan on rocking outfits that never go out of style. Jasmine, for one, said she'll stick with something black. "I always wear black. I think it's chic and beautiful and sexy. And definitely a dress. I'm a girlie girl."

As for Elsa, she believes that, when styled right, basics are the way to go. "I think it's pretty sexy to wear great-fitting jeans and a white t-shirt, with a bra that gives you the right shape," she told us. "Let your beauty shine through. Show off your body, but not in an obvious way."

07

Thou Shalt Know the Difference Between Single-Girl, New-Relationship, and Long-Term-Relationship Lingerie

Whether you're single, in a new relationship, or in a long-term one, it soon becomes clear: there's a difference in underwear choice depending on that status. "Single-girl lingerie is probably a bit brighter, y'know — just having fun," Jasmine said after thinking about it. "Then, new-relationship lingerie gets a bit sexy, a little . . . naughty. Long-term, I feel like you've also got to spice it up. You can't let things die down! You've gotta go and pick out something nice and sexy!"

"I think the worst category is long-term relationship," Elsa added when asked the same question. "That's when you need to step into Victoria's Secret and get some goodies! Single-girl lingerie is probably not the hottest. It's hot, but the hottest is when you're first starting to date someone. Then you're pulling out all your favorites. And then it just goes downhill!"
