Vetements Is the PFW Show Everyone Is Talking About

If this is your first introduction to Paris label Vetements, it won't be your last. Once indoctrinated, you'll realize it's everywhere. But the reputation is more than a buzz word. Behind the design is Demna Gvasalia, credited for creating a street-cool aesthetic and a cult following for the clothes (just look at what they're wearing to Fashion Month, for starters). He's garnered so much attention, in fact, that he's succeeded Alexander Wang at Balenciaga and will show his first collection for the design house next week.

For his own runway show, Gvasalia enlisted Lotta Volkova, friend and Vetements stylist, to lead a lineup of women and men down the aisle of a church for front-row guests like Kanye West and Anna Wintour. Though the clothes were hardly church-going ware, the most obvious offenders being a lineup of sweatshirts with choice phrases (like a nod to Bieber) and expletives, that's not the only way Vetements is shaking things up: oversize tailoring, androgynous dress that's meant for whoever wants to wear it, and a genuine excitement that made it one of the hottest and hardest tickets to land all week. That seems to be what this fresh blood is bringing to the industry, next up at Balenciaga. For now, see the looks that have everyone talking from Vetements' Fall '16 show.
