Topshop Just Made the '80s Power Wardrobe Cool Again

Topshop Unique took us on a journey back in time this London Fashion Week, taking inspiration from the fashion markets of '80s London and the stylish youth who shopped there. There was also a touch of '50s in off-the-shoulder silhouettes, but they were modernized in sheer fabrics and panels: this was not your granny's wardrobe, it was a powerful, take-charge collection for a modern woman.

Black vinyl pencil skirts worn with hot pink stilettos and gray suit jackets over minidresses were an edgy take on the '80s work wardrobe, though thankfully they didn't come with huge shoulder pads. Going into evening, these became body-con black dresses with accents in tulle, glossy patent, or sheer mesh.

Key pieces from the collection can be bought immediately at Topshop.com (as well as in a boutique at the show space itself), and there are plenty we can see flying off the shelves. Look out for the hot pink cocoon coat, the zebra-print pieces, silk slips, and ruffled, high-neck floral dresses. Plus, get in there quick for the high-waisted trousers, waistcoat dress, and fur-trimmed leather jacket. If there's anyone who knows what women want to wear right now, it's Topshop, and even with runway prices, these pieces won't hang around for long.
