Engagement Ring Finger Piercings Are a New, Questionable Trend, and . . . Ouch?!

Instagram trends have a tendency to veer into head-scratching territory. We've seen all manner of wacky eyebrows and 3D nail adornments, but the latest social media phenomenon is taking it to a whole new level. Allow us to present engagement dermal piercings, the slightly more permanent and significantly more painful way to display your commitment to your beloved.

Yes, over the traditional ring, couples are apparently now choosing dermal piercings with diamonds that appear to float atop the finger. Now, we're all for unconventional when it comes to weddings, but piercing your ring finger with a piece of metal rather than opting for a band to hold your diamond in place? Well, that's one engagement trend even we never saw coming — and we have to admit, we've got some reservations.

Your hands are arguably the most utilized part of your body, and the idea of snagging this stud on a sweater or a coat pocket just makes us cringe — hard. Injury and infection risks aside, ditching an engagement ring for a dermal piercing also, presumably, limits the size of the stone you can choose. Now that's where we draw the line. (Wink, wink.)

If you're curious about the trend, check out some of the ways early adopters are doing it, then decide for yourself if you'd take the plunge with a piercing. To each her own, but we think we're just gonna stick to putting a ring on it.
