As cool as trench coats may look when worn by street style experts in New York City, I've personally always avoided investing in the outerwear for fear that I'd wind up looking like an Inspector Gadget wannabe. But after seeing Meghan Markle wear one with Inspector Gadget-less grace and ease, I'm officially convinced to give the classic trend a try. On Oct. 30, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in New Zealand as part of her 16-day royal tour with Prince Harry, and though she was wearing neutral-toned pieces from head to toe, she looked far from basic, thanks to her jacket.

While greeting fans and visiting a charity in Auckland, Meghan wore a breezy Burberry trench coat with gently puffed sleeves that softened the usual military-esque vibe of the closet staple. The mom-to-be wore her coat open to show off her formfitting Brandon Maxwell midi dress (and her adorable growing baby bump, which she lovingly cradled while walking through the crowds). Per usual, Meghan finished the look with a pair of neutral Stuart Weitzman pumps, her go-to heels.

Meghan's sleek trench coat appears to be sold out (*pretends to be shocked*), but never fear — we tracked down a few other similar styles for you to shop ahead if you, too, are looking to conquer your Inspector Gadget look-alike fears.
