Why Is No One Discussing Frances McDormand Rocking the Hell Out of Birkenstocks at the Oscars?

We can always count on Frances McDormand to march to the beat of her own drum all award season long. Case in point: she wore the fashion world's most polarizing shoe, Birkenstocks, to the Oscars this year. In a sea of sky-high stilettos, the 61-year-old actress stood out in her bright yellow slides as she walked the red carpet and took the stage to present Olivia Colman with the best actress award.

Frances designed her custom suede Birkenstocks with Valentino Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli and paired them with a ruffled magenta gown from the Italian fashion house's Spring 2019 Couture collection. Though I've personally always been staunchly anti-Birks, I must admit that I admire her unconventional footwear choice.

This isn't the first time Frances has worn Valentino on the red carpet, as she famously rocked the hell out of a blue couture number at the 2018 Met Gala. Keep reading to get an up-close look at her bespoke Birkenstocks at the Oscars in all their comfy, dance-floor-approved glory.
