Adidas by Stella McCartney's spring summer collection is a multipurpose edit of high-performance activewear that supports athletes in land and water sports. Beach Defender features an athletic playsuit that doubles as a swimsuit, a bikini, an active jacket, footwear, and accessories made from 40-to-100-percent recycled materials.
"My inspiration for this collection came from looking at those who have a connection with the world's water and observing how they interact with, and protect it," Stella McCartney said in a press statement. "Today's generation are more connected with nature and the planet than ever before; they are the generation who are going to make a real difference to our world and they truly are my constant source of inspiration. I created Beach Defender with them in mind, and my hope is that the collection will support them as they carry out their missions."
Stella is most proud of the versatility of Beach Defender because it is meant to be worn for various types of workouts and activities while minimizing the number of garments you need. "Young people today don't exercise or move in a homogenous way," she said. "We know they are spending more time in nature, whether that's wild water swimming, hiking, paddle boarding or just walking along our shorelines. We wanted to create garments and footwear that support them through all of these activities and save them from having to buy multiple pieces as they move between land and water."
The Beach Defender collection features a trisuit made with PRIMEBLUE (a high-performance material made from 100-percent recycled nylon) that is ideal for running, swimming, and triathlons. The pull-on jacket designed from 40-percent recycled materials features a built-in mesh bag for collecting ocean plastic. The 3-in-1 Climacool Vento shoe is a multipurpose training shoe that takes you from the studio to the great outdoors and is made with at least 50 percent Parley ocean plastic. Beach Defender also includes a bikini set made from 100-percent recycled materials and the Alphaedge 4D Translucent Shoe that features a 3D-printed midsole.
