Chelsea Piers Fitness offers a handful of low-impact classes — including TRX + Bosu, which is designed to enhance strength, balance, and stability. The 45-minute structure includes work on both pieces of equipment, split up into two segments where the group trades places mid-workout. I started on the TRX strap and was shocked by how quickly I felt the burn kick in and the shakes begin to challenge my form. I was led by instructor Hannah Mae Tanner, who informed me that the typical workout set includes leggings, a tank top/sports bra combo, and non-platform sneakers (the latter being key for balancing on the Bosu ball!).
Tanner recommends Beyond Yoga, which is why I found it prime time to test out the activewear brand's iconic Spacedye fabric. It's known for being a buttery soft performance fabric that doesn't look sweat-wicking, but surprisingly is. I was attracted to the V-cut, overlap waistband of the leggings to elongate my frame, and felt supported by the built-in bra of the cropped racerback tank. I slipped on a sweat-wicking headband to hold back my frizzy hair so I could focus on pulling off the TRX moves (it had been a second since I've used one). I also took a note from Tanner with my sneaker selection. "I would avoid any built-up sneakers," she offers. "A very minimal sneaker is ideal for this class because we will be stepping onto the dome of the Bosu at times."
Ultimately, I think it was the Saucony shoes that helped me most with balance, but I really love how soft Beyond Yoga's Spacedye material is and would recommend it for any low-impact class like this one.
