McDonald's Is Going Meatless With the McVegan Burger — Are You Lovin' It?

Update: The McVegan will become a permanent menu item in Finland and Sweden starting on Dec. 28.

Original story: When you think of McDonald's, you think of salty fries and oozing burgers, but its latest menu item could pave the way for more health-conscious fast-food options. Meet the McVegan, a meatless burger made with a single soy patty, topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, and mustard.

The McVegan is currently only available in Tampere, Finland, and will be tested from Oct. 4 through Nov. 21, but if it's a success, the company will consider bringing it to McDonald's locations around the world. When we first heard of a "meatless burger," we simply thought McDonald's would be offering its beloved burger sans patty, but this exceeded our expectations, and it looks like the customers are lovin' it.

According to vegan blog Veggie Athletic, McDonald's Finland Marketing Director Christoffer Rönnblad said the feedback has been "quite positive." Rönnblad also said that the fries in the country are "completely vegan," making the meal a vegan dream come true.

As expected, Twitter users have some hilarious thoughts about the McVegan, ranging from "that's a hell McNo from me" to "can't wait to get a McVegan at 4am." Only time will tell if the McVegan will make its way across the globe, but in the meantime, check out how to order delicious, vegan options at popular fast-food spots all over the US.
