Pick Up: Ditalini Pasta + Cheddar Cheese + Cauliflower + Kale ($5)

If you love mac and cheese but want a more nutritious version, pick up the Ditalini Pasta + Cheddar Cheese + Cauliflower + Kale. It's creamy and thick with a generous amount of kale in every bite. This is definitely on the healthy side of the mac and cheese scale with only a small serving of actual pasta but plenty of cheese and butter.

Whisk the powder from the individual serving of Matcha Green Tea Packets into a cup of hot water or it can also be served cold. Be sure to cut the tops off the packets, instead of tearing them, so it's easier to pour out. I enjoyed the tea with some steamed almond milk and a couple Kona Coffee Creamy Half-Dipped Shortbread Cookies.

Simply let the frozen Mudd Pie sit at room temperature for a few minutes (not too long since it has ice cream). This pie can be enjoyed on its own without any added frills. The slices are a bit hard to cut so no judgement if you choose to eat it straight out of the pie tin.

On the Fence: Organic Dry Black Beans ($2)

On the Fence: Organic Dry Black Beans ($2)

Trader Joe's new Organic Dry Black Beans are sure to become a common staple in the kitchen pantry. Cooking beans from scratch has it's benefits, like controlling flavors and sodium levels, but I find the canned black beans far too convenient to give them up completely.

On the Fence: Organic Dry Black Beans ($2)

The lengthy process of preparing these Organic Dry Black Beans for a simple bean dip was too troublesome for me. If you have the time and patience, soak the black beans and cook according to the package directions. I found the overnight soak worked the best. Boil the soaked black beans with a freshly chopped white onion, minced garlic, and salt and pepper. Simmer for about 2 hours. Transfer to a bowl and add salt, pepper, chili powder, and a little hot sauce. Mash up the beans and serve with some corn chips for dipping.
