Prepare to Drool Over TikTok's New Favorite Drink Trend: Whipped Coffee

There's a new trend sweeping TikTok, and it's not another one of those catchy choreographed dances — although it may give you the caffeine boost needed to learn one. Tons of people on the app have begun making a frothy beverage dubbed "whipped coffee," and just scrolling through all the videos has us salivating.

Although the creamy, cloud-like concoction looks like something only a professional barista would know how to create, it's actually super easy to make at home. Most TikTokkers are following these simple instructions to get in on the trend:

  1. Combine equal proportions of instant coffee powder, sugar, and hot water in a bowl. (Many are choosing to use 2 tablespoons of each ingredient, for reference.)
  2. Using a whisk or a handheld milk frother (if you have one), whip the ingredients together until the mixture turns into a Cool Whip-like consistency with a caramel-brown color. (Note: This may take a few minutes, but at least it doubles as an arm workout if you're whisking!)
  3. Pour yourself a half-full glass of milk, scoop the whipped coffee on top, and sip away. (Try channeling your inner barista by adding a sprinkling of cocoa powder or chocolate syrup.)

Whipped coffee gained popularity in other countries like India, Pakistan, and South Korea, the latter of which nicknamed it "dalgona coffee" because it resembles a popular toffee-like treat with that same name there. If you're not much of a coffee drinker, some TikTokkers have swapped the instant coffee for matcha powder or cocoa powder, and the ending results are still just as frothy and tasty. Watch a handful of videos ahead to see the dreamy sips come together, and you'll likely feel inspired to try out the three-ingredient recipe for yourself.
