In an Instagram caption on June 5, 2024, singer Halsey confirmed that they had been diagnosed with lupus, more formally know as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), after a series of public health struggles.
"I realize everyone is catching up with news I've held in for a very long time, and I wasn't sure how much I wanted to share. You've all been so kind so I want to share a bit more. In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder," the singer wrote in her Instagram post, which included a slideshow of images teasing new music.
Halsey also stated that both their lupus and rare disorder are "currently being managed or in remission," but the conditions will be in their life forever. Still, having been able to focus on getting their health under control over the past few years has been invaluable. "After 2 years, I'm feeling better and I'm more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can't wait to get back where I belong: With you all 🤍 Singing and screaming my heart out," they closed out the post.
