As for which type to go for, she advises ball dahlias for daytime Summer weddings where the heat factor is high because they hold up the best. "'Dinner plate' and 'cafe au lait' dahlias are stunning in size and texture, but unfortunately they don't love the heat, so they’re ideal for cooler evening events or indoor ceremonies."

Depending on your wedding theme and setting, a less traditional flower might make an awe-inspiring addition to your bouquet. "Any flower of the Protea variety will do well in the sunshine, and last all day and night." Callie is especially fond of Blushing Bride, Pink Ice, Compacta, and King proteas.

Don't forget about the fillers that highlight and frame the blossoms. As with flowers, certain types are better suited for summer weddings than others. "Greenery – especially ferns, eucalyptus, explosion grass, geranium, and silver Lamb's Ear – and succulents hold up really well in the heat," advises Callie. "Adding summer fruits, such as kumquats or flowering artichokes, to the mix gives a unique aspect and keeps the arrangement looking fresh."
