The very first recommendation you'll get for a dust mite allergy is a mattress cover. And you can't go wrong with this encasement that's a bestseller on Amazon. It has a waterproof barrier, the fabric is cool and breathable, and its heavy-duty zipper keeps your mattress safe and enclosed (from both allergens and bed bugs). I simply won't lay on a mattress without it.
Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase ($115)
I'm going to be honest: when I first bought the Slip silk pillowcase, it was purely for aesthetic reasons. I heard it reduces friction, which curbs hair breakage, and keeps your moisturizer from rubbing off as it's less absorbant and rough than cotton. Imagine my surprise when it also made breathing easier at night as its dense structure is hard for dust mites to penetrate. Win win!

Latex is inhospitable to dust mites — it's dense, so the critters have fewer places to hide, and its moisture-repelling qualities mean less humidity, which mites need to survive.
