PS: What are the most important qualities that you think make a great sofa?
DS: Quality is really important. We have all of our products in our house. Literally, my dog, Coco, he runs on all this stuff, sits on everything. Our kids jump on everything. And that's exactly how we vet out the quality of products and the testing. We're like, "OK, this is a solid product that withstands kids." Or we'll say, "Hey, I think we need to upgrade this fabric because . . ." So, it's like our house is our testing ground. It gives me more confidence in what we're doing.
PS: The Kova Pit sofa is a favorite of our readers (and editors). What was the inspiration behind this big comfy piece?
DS: We wanted a deep sofa and something modular. There are a lot of these cloud-like silhouettes on the market now, but nothing was perfect and the right price, so we knew we had to make it. We wanted it to be that no-doubt, movie-night, chill-night sofa. Something where, if there's a guest that comes over to your house, they don't feel awkward sitting on it because it's just so comfy. It's the perfect all-around family sofa that actually looks good and will last. We also paid a lot of attention to the detail; we put the french seams on it to make it look more designer, elegant, and pretty. It has both feathers and a foam layer that increases its comfort. The whole design works really well.
