"I think my biggest motivation is my family. I'm not just doing this to change my life, but also to change theirs. I work hard for them. I find inspiration for them every single day. What I chose to do with my life isn't the easiest, and when it does get hard, they're my backbone. They're always there to help me get through it, whatever it is — whether it's personal things or stuff that has to do with my career. And it's awesome."

"There have definitely been plenty of times when I've been down. You know what I do is very emotionally, physically, and mentally draining, and there's definitely times when I'm constantly on the go, and the flights are nonstop. I'm coming to LA, and although I'm in LA, I don't get to even see my family. We might live in the same house, but I'm out and about in meetings and the studio. When it gets really, really hard and I'm, like, "Do I really have to go to the studio right now? I'm so tired," my mom is the first to be, like, "You're you. You go for it, mama. You're capable of doing this."

"It's definitely bittersweet. You know it's bitter because you no longer have your own sense of privacy, but I think that I was raised to be an open book, so that part of it genuinely doesn't bother me. Whatever it is I go through in life, I want my fans to know that I'm just like them. I'm a human being and I go through things. You know I get stressed out, I have breakups, and I go through heartbreak. And what's great about it, too, is I remember growing up and looking up to people, like Jennifer Lopez, and thinking: "Wow! She's always sparkly and glittery and always looking top-notch amazing!" And as time has gone by, with social media, we get to learn the other side of artists and find out they're not superheroes."

"In that song in particular, I speak about my grandparents and the fact that they came here for a better life. They didn't know the language, and they learned it. They didn't have any form of transportation, and they figured it out. They had a family, and they made sure that their children had the best that they could supply for them — although it wasn't much. And they made something out of nothing, and I had to do the same thing, but in my own way. I started at the most difficult time in my life. I was 9 years old, which is so young, and we were living in my grandparent's converted garage. The percentage of chance that getting a record deal could actually happen was small, and I actually did it. I think this generation has done so many things to prove people wrong on stereotypes. And we're not doing it because we're trying to prove people wrong, but simply because we're doing things that we love to do."

"This is very random — very, very random actually. But when I was about 9 years old, I learned to crochet from my grandma. So I know how to crochet blankets and little beanies and scarves and stuff. I don't do it as much now, but I definitely went through a phase where that's all I focused on in elementary school. And I would focus on making little outfits for Barbies, and it's a very random thing that I actually enjoy doing. Yup, I'm a rapper and a crocheter!"
