Demi Lovato just dove deep into the meaning behind "Father," the emotional ballad on her new album, Confident. As its title suggests, the track is about her late father, who struggled with mental illness and died tragically in 2013. Demi has been open about her own struggle with bipolar disorder and regularly works to bring awareness to the cause, but listening to her explain how she was affected by her father's death is heartbreaking.
"I was very conflicted when he passed because he was abusive," she said in her latest YouTube video. "He was mean, but he wanted to be a good person. And he wanted to have his family."
