Luis Miguel TV Show Details

Here's What Diego Boneta Has to Say About Playing Luis Miguel in a New Series

Diego Boneta as Luis Miguel? We will pay money to see that, but luckily we won't have to. The 26-year-old Mexican actor and singer is playing Luis Miguel in an upcoming and highly anticipated TV series on Telemundo. Diego has credits under his belt like 90210, Pretty Little Liars, Scream Queens, and the movie Rock of Ages. But after so many years in English-speaking TV, he's getting back to his roots and we can't wait to see him on the small screen again. Fingers crossed he gets to sing some of Luis's hits like "La Chica del Bikini Azul" and "Somos Novios."

"It's an absolute honor to be able to portray my childhood idol," Diego told POPSUGAR over email. "He's been someone that inspired me throughout my career and I couldn't be more excited to take on this challenge."

In the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s, you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Luis Miguel's voice, but the Mexican singer has been out of the spotlight for a while. Telemundo has been granted exclusive rights to broadcast the episodes in the US, while Netflix will be airing the series in Latin America and Spain.

"For decades I have been asked to tell my story, many have created their own versions, now I have decided to tell the true story of my life," Miguel stated in a press release. "I am ready to revisit my past and its many aspects that have sparked so much curiosity and speculation. People will travel alongside with me through a surprising, unexpected, and emotional journey that has shaped the artist and the person that I am today." The series is set to premiere in 2018, but in the meantime, watch the trailer above.
