It seems like everywhere you look on Instagram, style stars are wearing chokers — from day to night, at airports, and even on the red carpet. It doesn't surprise me! This accessory is easy, feminine, and versatile, complementing basically every neckline. I remember in the '90s a choker was on my neck almost every day. If only Instagram and selfies had existed at that time, I would've documented every moment.

Now that the trend is back, I'm also digging out all the tricks I had in my back pocket to create the accessory of the moment at home, with whatever I could find lying around. Here are some ideas on how to DIY your way into the trend.

Make Other Pieces of Jewelry Multitask

I've had these leather wrap-around bracelets in my closet for a while and realized they could be wrapped around my neck once instead of twice around my wrist. Two accessories in one!

02

Go Basic With a Piece of String

I look for strings everywhere: inside my clothing (for example, the black hanger straps), leather tags that come with purses and suitcases, and ribbons to gift wrap are just a few things I collect and use. Simply tie a knot at the back.

03

Grab the Glue Gun and Get Crafty

To personalize my string findings, I add studs or pendants from other necklaces. It's really easy to do and takes just minutes.

04

Shorten a Favorite Necklace

Make a long necklace into a shorter one by either tying a knot or adjusting the clasps. I personally love chains because they're easy to adjust!

05

Use a Bandana

Lastly, the easiest and most affordable one yet, the classic bandana has made the ultimate comeback. Wear it tight around the neck in a knot or bow for a fun spin on the choker.
