Choosing a fragrance based on the online reviews is never easy. It's not like makeup or skin care where you can see before and after images and videos. With fragrance, it's trusting your instincts, reading reviews, and asking yourself, "Do I want to smell like that?" However, upon searching for a new spring fragrance and reading glorifying reviews for Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia ($108), I decided I did indeed want to smell like a Gucci girl — solely based on the reviews. Por qué no, right? I should also note I've always had an interest in fragrance thanks to my mom, my abuelita, and tias, who've made a case for strong scents, including Carolina Herrera's original perfume and Paloma Picasso.

The way this floral fragrance is described is as "a delicious potion of joy built around the Gardenia flower blended with solar jasmine absolute, cheerful pear blossom, and sweet brown sugar accord." At first, I wasn't entirely sold on the description, but then I came across reviews.

One that really stood out to me with five stars read: "This is not only my favorite Gucci scent, but favorite perfume overall. It is a light, clean, floral scent that wears well for any occasion at any time of the day." I thought, "OK, I like where this is going." Aside from several other reviews that claimed this was the best perfume they'd ever purchased, there was another that caught my attention saying, "I didn't used to be a floral scent type of girl, but this smells amazing!"

Many stars and exclamation points later I decided I wanted to try the perfume and see what the #FloraFantasy was all about. I'm not going to lie and pretend the cute pink lacquered bottle featuring pretty, whimsical florals didn't entice me. I knew it would serve as chic decor (being Gucci and all) on my bathroom shelf where I rest a couple of my other perfumes.

When said bottle arrived, I was excited to finally catch a whiff of the pear blossom, brown sugar, and patchouli notes, and to my delightful surprise, I was utterly impressed by its sweetness — literally.

This fragrance is sweet without being overpowering. It's categorized as a rich white floral, and I do find a marked balance between the two main components. I enjoy that I can wear it day or night and that a compliment or two never escapes. It's also feminine yet not too girly, and I can even sense a hint of edge to it. It's like the cherry on top that completes my look for the day (or night) that makes me smell good and feel good, too. And like my mom says, '!tu lo vales!'
