Romantic drama Ever After is a 1998 adaptation of the classic fairy tale Cinderella. The film, which is presented as historical fiction rather than fantasy, stars Drew Barrymore as Danielle de Barbarac, an 18-year-old working as a housemaid in her late father's estate in 16th-century Renaissance France, serving her unloving stepmother (Anjelica Huston) and two jealous stepsisters (Megan Dodds and Melanie Lynskey). To save the life of a friend, Danielle pretends to be a noblewoman; while disguised, she encounters Prince Henry (Dougray Scott), who takes an immediate liking to her. As the two fall in love, Danielle struggles to keep her secret, fearing it will tear them apart forever.
